Journal ArticleDOI
Oil palm natural diversity and the potential for yield improvement
Edson Barcelos,Sara Rios,Raimundo Nonato Vieira da Cunha,Ricardo Lopes,Sã©Rgio Y. Motoike,Elena Babiychuk,Aleksandra Skirycz,Sergei Kushnir +7 more
TL;DR: African oil palm has the highest productivity amongst cultivated oleaginous crops and could provide a simple practical solution to eliminate global pro-vitamin A deficiency, and the molecular bases of agronomically important traits can be understood at the single base pair resolution, enabling gene-centered breeding and engineering of this remarkable crop.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development, characterisation, and across-taxa utility of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) microsatellite markers.
Norbert Billotte,Ange-Marie Risterucci,Edson Barcelos,Jean-Louis Noyer,Philippe Amblard,Franc-Christophe Baurens +5 more
TL;DR: High levels of allelic variability indicated that E. guineensis SSRs will be a powerful tool for genetic studies of the genus Elaeis, including variety identification and intra- or inter-specific genetic mapping, and phenetic information based on SSR flanking region sequences makes E. GuineensisSSR markers a potentially useful molecular resource for any researcher studying the phylogeny of palm taxa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic diversity and relationship in American and African oil palm as revealed by RFLP and AFLP molecular markers
TL;DR: Evaluated genetic diversity, its organization and the genetic relationships within oil palm and E. guineensis revealed that genetic divergence between the twospecies is of the same magnitude as that among provenances of E. oleifera, in discrepancy with the supposed early tertiary separation of the two species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contribution of the institutions in the Northern region of Brazil to the development of plant cultivars and their impact on agriculture
Aparecida das Graças Claret de Souza,Nelcimar Reis Sousa,Ricardo Lopes,André Luiz Atroch,Edson Barcelos,Everton Rabelo Cordeiro,Maria do Socorro Padilha de Oliveira,R. M. Alves,João Toé de Farias Neto,Hiroshi Noda,Danilo Fernandes da Silva Filho,Kaoru Yuyama,Caio Márcio Vasconcellos Cordeiro de Almeida,Maria Teresa Gomes Lopes,Selma Toyoko Ohashi +14 more
TL;DR: The improvement of native species, the main focus of the breeding programs of the institutions in the Northern region of Brazil, is a form of exploiting the Amazonian biodiversity for the benefit of society.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correlation and Path analysis for yield components in Dura oil palm germplasm
Sara Rios,Raimundo Nonato Vieira da Cunha,Ricardo Lopes,Edson Barcelos,Raimundo Nonato Carvalho da Rocha,Wanderlei Antônio Alves de Lima +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated linear correlations and their direct and indirect effects on the characters of production for oil palm germplasm in 34 accessions of the Germplasm of Oil Palm from Embrapa considering 37 variables among vegetative characters, bunch yield and bunch components.
