Journal ArticleDOI
Electrochemical treatment of textile dyes and dyehouse effluents
Efthalia Chatzisymeon,Nikolaos P. Xekoukoulotakis,Alberto Coz,Nicolas Kalogerakis,Dionissios Mantzavinos +4 more
TL;DR: Although the acute toxicity of the actual effluent to marine bacteria Vibrio fischeri was weak, it increased sharply following treatment, thus suggesting the formation of persistent toxic by-products.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kinetics of UV-A/TiO2 photocatalytic degradation and mineralization of the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole in aqueous matrices
Nikolaos P. Xekoukoulotakis,Catherine Drosou,Christina Brebou,Efthalia Chatzisymeon,Evroula Hapeshi,Despo Fatta-Kassinos,Dionissios Mantzavinos +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the photocatalytic degradation and mineralization of the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in aqueous TiO 2 suspensions was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Solar light and metal-doped TiO2 to eliminate water-transmitted bacterial pathogens: Photocatalyst characterization and disinfection performance
Danae Venieri,Antonia Fraggedaki,Maria Kostadima,Efthalia Chatzisymeon,Vassilios Binas,Apostolos Zachopoulos,George Kiriakidis,George Kiriakidis,Dionissios Mantzavinos +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the inactivation of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in water by means of heterogeneous photocatalysis under simulated solar irradiation was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Life cycle assessment of advanced oxidation processes for olive mill wastewater treatment
TL;DR: In this paper, the life cycle assessment methodology was utilized to estimate the environmental footprint of three advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), namely, UV heterogenous photocatalysis (UV/TiO2), wet air oxidation (WAO), and electrochemical oxidation (EO) over boron-doped diamond electrodes, for OMW treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Life cycle assessment of organic versus conventional agriculture. A case study of lettuce cultivation in Greece
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the environmental sustainability of an organic and a conventional lettuce cultivation system, situated at Northern Greece, by collecting data from all stages (i.e. irrigation, machinery used, and fertilizing) of lettuce cultivation and their sustainability was assessed by means of the LCA methodology.
