Understanding the Fragmentation Pattern of Marine Plastic Debris
Alexandra Ter Halle,Lucie Ladirat,Xavier Gendre,Dominique Goudounèche,Claire Pusineri,Corinne Routaboul,Christophe Tenailleau,Benjamin Duployer,Emile Perez +8 more
TL;DR: A thorough physicochemical characterization of samples collected from the North Artlantic subtropical gyre during the sea campaign Expedition seventh Continent found that the smaller microplastics, the cubic ones mostly, are fragmented much faster than the parallelepipeds.
Journal ArticleDOI
To what extent are microplastics from the open ocean weathered
Alexandra Ter Halle,Lucie Ladirat,Marion Martignac,Anne Françoise Mingotaud,Olivier Boyron,Emile Perez +5 more
TL;DR: It was concluded that the morphology of marine microplastic was much altered and that an unambiguous shortening of the polymer chains took place even for this supposedly robust and inert polymer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Palmitic Acid on the Electrical Conductivity of Carbon Nanotubes−Epoxy Resin Composites
Sophie Barrau,Philippe Demont,Emile Perez,Alain Peigney,Christophe Laurent,Colette Lacabanne +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that the palmitic acid allows an efficient dispersion of carbon nanotubes in the epoxy matrix, and set up an experimental protocol in order to enhance the CNTs dispersion in epoxy resin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Small Microplastics As a Main Contributor to Plastic Mass Balance in the North Atlantic Subtropical Gyre
Marie Poulain,Marie Poulain,Matthieu Mercier,Laurent Brach,Marion Martignac,Corinne Routaboul,Emile Perez,Marie Christine Desjean,Alexandra Ter Halle +8 more
TL;DR: SMP buoyancy is significantly decreased compared to the large microplastics (LMP, 1-5 mm) and consequently more susceptible to vertical transport, and it is demonstrated that SMP were 300 to 70 000 times more abundant than LMP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preparation of aqueous dispersion of thermoplastic sizing agent for carbon fiber by emulsion/solvent evaporation
TL;DR: In this article, different sizing agent aqueous dispersions based on polyetherimide (PEI) were elaborated in order to improve the interface between carbon fibers and a thermoplastic matrix (PEEK).
