TL;DR: Modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, particularly hypertension, potentiate therapy-associated risk for major cardiac events in this population and should be the focus of future interventional studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular hospitalizations and mortality among recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Eric J. Chow,Beth A. Mueller,K. Scott Baker,Kara L. Cushing-Haugen,Mary E.D. Flowers,Paul J. Martin,Debra L. Friedman,Stephanie J. Lee +7 more
TL;DR: Increased rates of cardiovascular disease should be taken into account when caring for patients who have received HSCT, and future efforts should be directed toward improved screening and controlling of factors that predispose toward cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temporal patterns in the risk of chronic health conditions in survivors of childhood cancer diagnosed 1970–99: a report from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study cohort
Todd M. Gibson,Sogol Mostoufi-Moab,Kayla Stratton,Wendy M. Leisenring,Dana Barnea,Eric J. Chow,Sarah S. Donaldson,Rebecca M. Howell,Melissa M. Hudson,Anita Mahajan,Paul C. Nathan,Kirsten K. TL;DR: Results were consistent with changes in treatment as a significant mediator of the association between diagnosis decade and risk of grade 3-5 chronic conditions for astrocytoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Late Effects Surveillance Recommendations among Survivors of Childhood Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation: A Children's Oncology Group Report
Eric J. Chow,Lynnette Anderson,K. Scott Baker,Smita Bhatia,Gregory M.T. Guilcher,Jennifer T. Huang,Wendy Pelletier,Joanna L. Perkins,Linda Rivard,Tal Schechter,Ami J. Shah,Karla Wilson,Kenneth Wong,Satkiran S. Grewal,Saro H. Armenian,Lillian R. Meacham,Daniel A. Mulrooney,Sharon M. Castellino +17 more
TL;DR: An organ system-based overview that emphasizes the most relevant COG recommendations (with accompanying evidence grade) for the long-term follow-up care of childhood HCT survivors (regardless of current age) based on a rigorous review of the available evidence is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cancer risk among children with very low birth weights.
Logan G. Spector,Susan E. Puumala,Susan E. Carozza,Eric J. Chow,Erin E. Fox,Scott Horel,Kimberly J. Johnson,Colleen McLaughlin,Peggy Reynolds,Julie Von Behren,Beth A. Mueller +10 more
TL;DR: Examination of case-control data sets created by linking the cancer and birth registries of California, Minnesota, New York, Texas, and Washington states suggested no association between most cancers and very low birth weight, with the exception of the known association of hepatoblastoma.
