Journal ArticleDOI
Perioperative chemotherapy with FOLFOX4 and surgery versus surgery alone for resectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer (EORTC Intergroup trial 40983): a randomised controlled trial
Bernard Nordlinger,Halfdan Sorbye,Bengt Glimelius,Bengt Glimelius,Graeme J. Poston,Peter M. Schlag,Philippe Rougier,Wolf O. Bechstein,John N. Primrose,Euan Walpole,Meg Finch-Jones,Daniel Jaeck,Darius F. Mirza,Rowan W. Parks,Laurence Collette,M. Praet,U. Bethe,Eric Van Cutsem,Werner Scheithauer,Thomas Gruenberger +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the combination of perioperative chemotherapy and surgery compared with surgery alone for patients with initially resectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perioperative FOLFOX4 chemotherapy and surgery versus surgery alone for resectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer (EORTC 40983) : long-term results of a randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial
Bernard Nordlinger,Halfdan Sorbye,Bengt Glimelius,Graeme J. Poston,Peter M. Schlag,Philippe Rougier,Wolf O. Bechstein,John N. Primrose,Euan Walpole,Meg Finch-Jones,Daniel Jaeck,Darius F. Mirza,Rowan W. Parks,Murielle Mauer,Erik Tanis,Eric Van Cutsem,Werner Scheithauer,Thomas Gruenberger +17 more
TL;DR: Overall survival data after long-term follow-up found no difference in overall survival with the addition of perioperative chemotherapy with FOLFOX4 compared with surgery alone for patients with resectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer, however, the previously observed benefit in PFS means it should remain the reference treatment for this population of patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgery alone versus chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery for resectable cancer of the oesophagus: a randomised controlled phase III trial.
Bryan Burmeister,B. Mark Smithers,Val Gebski,Lara Fitzgerald,R. John Simes,Peter G. Devitt,Stephen P. Ackland,David C. Gotley,David Joseph,Jeremy Millar,John B. North,Euan Walpole,James W. Denham +12 more
TL;DR: Preoperative chemoradiotherapy with cisplatin and fluorouracil does not significantly improve progression-free or overall survival for patients with resectable oesophageal cancer compared with surgery alone, and further assessment is warranted of the role of cheMoradiotherapy in patients with squamous-cell tumours.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective Randomized Trial of Docetaxel Versus Doxorubicin in Patients With Metastatic Breast Cancer
Stephen Chan,K. Friedrichs,Daniel Noel,Tamás Pintér,Simon Van Belle,Daniel A. Vorobiof,Ricardo Duarte,M. Gil,Istvan Bodrogi,Elizabeth Murray,Louise Yelle,Gunter von Minckwitz,Stefan Korec,Peter Simmonds,Franco Buzzi,Rosario González Mancha,Gary Richardson,Euan Walpole,Monica Ronzoni,Michael Murawsky,May Alakl,Alessandro Riva,John Crown +22 more
TL;DR: The observed differences in activity and toxicity profiles provide a basis for therapy choice and confirms the rationale for combination studies in early breast cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is concurrent radiation therapy required in patients receiving preoperative chemotherapy for adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus? A randomised phase II trial
Bryan Burmeister,Janine Thomas,Elizabeth Burmeister,Euan Walpole,Jennifer Harvey,Damien Thomson,Andrew Barbour,Andrew Barbour,David C. Gotley,David C. Gotley,B. Mark Smithers,B. Mark Smithers +11 more
TL;DR: Despite no difference in survival, the improvement from preoperative CRT with respect to margin involvement makes this treatment a reasonable option for bulky, locally advanced resectable adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus.
