Journal ArticleDOI
Differential expression of the ascorbate oxidase multigene family during fruit development and in response to stress.
TL;DR: Gene-specific expression studies in melon suggest that AO gene expression is transcriptionally regulated during fruit development and in response to hormonal cues associated with the control of cell growth and the stress response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards Elucidating Carnosic Acid Biosynthesis in Lamiaceae : Functional Characterization of the Three First Steps of the Pathway in Salvia fruticosa and Rosmarinus officinalis
Dragana Božić,Dimitra Papaefthimiou,Kathleen Brückner,Ric C. H. de Vos,Constantinos A. Tsoleridis,Dimitra Katsarou,Antigoni Papanikolaou,Irini Pateraki,Fani Chatzopoulou,Eleni Dimitriadou,Stefanos Kostas,David Manzano,Ulschan Scheler,Albert Ferrer,Alain Tissier,Antonios M. Makris,Sotirios C. Kampranis,Angelos K. Kanellis +17 more
TL;DR: Carnosic acid is a phenolic diterpene with anti-tumour, anti-diabetic, antibacterial and neuroprotective properties that is produced by a number of species from several genera of the Lamiaceae family, including Salvia fruticosa and Rosmarinus officinalis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic justification of severe COVID-19 using a rigorous algorithm.
Eleni Gavriilaki,Panagiotis G. Asteris,Tasoula Touloumenidou,Evaggelia Evdoxia Koravou,Maria Koutra,Penelope Georgia Papayanni,Vassiliki Karali,Apostolia Papalexandri,Christos Varelas,Fani Chatzopoulou,Maria Chatzidimitriou,Dimitrios Chatzidimitriou,Anastasia Veleni,Savvas Grigoriadis,Evdoxia Rapti,Diamantis Chloros,Ioannis Kioumis,Evaggelos Kaimakamis,Milly Bitzani,Dimitrios T. TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed genetic and clinical data from 97 patients hospitalized for severe coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) and found an ADAMTS13 variant in 49 patients, along with two risk factor variants (C3, 21 patients; CFH,34 patients).
Journal ArticleDOI
EST analysis and annotation of transcripts derived from a trichome-specific cDNA library from Salvia fruticosa
Fani Chatzopoulou,Antonios M. Makris,Anagnostis Argiriou,Jörg Degenhardt,Angelos K. Kanellis +4 more
TL;DR: Expression analysis of a selected set of genes known to be involved in the pathways of secondary metabolite synthesis showed higher expression levels in trichomes, validating the tissue specificity of the analyzed glandular trichome library.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic prediction of ICU hospitalization and mortality in COVID‐19 patients using artificial neural networks
Panagiotis G. Asteris,Eleni Gavriilaki,Tasoula Touloumenidou,Evaggelia Evdoxia Koravou,Maria Koutra,Penelope-Georgia Papayanni,Alexandros Pouleres,Vassiliki Karali,Minas E. TL;DR: It is revealed for the first time an ANN accurately predicting ICU hospitalization and death in COVID‐19 patients, based on genetic variants in complement genes, age and gender, and it is confirmed that genetic dysregulation is associated with impaired complement phenotype.
