Radiative forcing in the ACCMIP historical and future climate simulations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the short-lived drivers of climate change in current climate models and evaluated the 10 ACCMIP models that included aerosols, 8 of which also participated in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 5 (CMIP5).
Journal ArticleDOI

Wave-Driven Zonal Flow Vacillation in the Southern Hemisphere

TL;DR: In this article, the variability of the zonal mean flow in the Southern Hemisphere during the period 1985-94 was studied using European Centre for Medium-Range Forecasts analyses, and the dominant mode of variability has approximately equivalent barotropic variations of opposite signs centered at 40 8 and 608S. The temporal variance of the amplitude of this mode is well modeled as Gaussian red noise with a correlation efolding time of about 10 days.
Journal ArticleDOI

Projections of leaf area index in earth system models

TL;DR: In this article, the authors characterize the leaf area index (LAI) projections from the latest generation of earth system models (ESMs) for the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 8.5 and RCP4.5 scenarios.
Journal ArticleDOI

Northern High-Latitude Precipitation as Depicted by Atmospheric Reanalyses and Satellite Retrievals

TL;DR: In this article, the 40-yr ECMWF Re-Analysis (ERA-40) is evaluated for the north polar region, the terrestrial Arctic drainage, and its four major watersheds: the Ob, Yenisey, Lena, and Mackenzie basins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Empirical Extended-Range Prediction of the Madden–Julian Oscillation

TL;DR: In this paper, an empirical model that predicts the evolution of the Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO) in outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) and 200-mb stream function is developed.
