Returning to renewables to help mitigate climate change is an excellent approach which needs to be sustainable in order to meet energy demand of future generations. The study reviewed the opportunities associated with renewable energy sources which includes: Energy Security, Energy Access, Social and Economic development, Climate Change Mitigation, and reduction of environmental and health impacts. Energy is a vital input for social and economic development. As a result of the generalization of agricultural, industrial and domestic activities the demand for energy has increased remarkably, especially in emergent countries. This has meant rapid grower in the level of greenhouse gas emissions and the increase in fuel prices, which are the main driving forces behind efforts to utilize renewable energy sources more effectively, i.e. energy which comes from natural resources and is also naturally replenished. Despite the obvious advantages of renewable energy, it presents important drawbacks, such as the discontinuity of generation, as most renewable energy resources depend on the climate, which is why their use requires complex design, planning and control optimization methods. Fortunately, the continuous advances in computer hardware and software are allowing researchers to deal with these optimization problems using computational resources, as can be seen in the large number of optimization methods that have been applied to the renewable and sustainable energy field. This paper presents a review of the current state of the art in computational optimization methods applied to renewable and sustainable energy, offering a clear vision of the latest research advances in this field.

Oils, pure alcohols and alcohols mixtures have a complicated dielectric behavior. The strong electric field of the ions affects intensively the molecular interaction of solvents. Microwave heating resides in the characterization of dielectric properties. Classified as biodiesel precursors, advances in microwave technology of alcohols have a significant potential in improving the biodiesel production. In this context, this review provides basic knowledge on the dielectric properties theory and the heating phenomenon in the microwave fields. The main goal of the paper is to provide an organized summary of the main chemical and physical properties of alcohols and links them to their corresponding research studies dealing with dielectric properties measurements. The review covers the dielectric constant and loss factor variations observed with temperature and frequency, the relaxation time and the tangent loss of various mixtures found in the literature. Moreover, the review provides an updated database for organic solvents and alcohols to account for their abilities to couple in microwave radiation. The aim of the work is building a rigid bridge between chemico-physical and dielectric properties so it can make an essential step towards improving biofuels production. This review opens new perspectives for further investigation of dielectric properties that are interesting for microwave heating studies.

Alcohols and alcohols mixtures as liquid biofuels: A review of dielectric properties

Power quality is a research field related to the proper operation of devices and technological equipment in industry, service, and domestic activities. The level of power quality is determined by variations in voltage, frequency, and waveforms with respect to reference values. These variations correspond to different types of disturbances, including power fluctuations, interruptions, and transients. Several studies have been focused on analysing power quality issues. However, there is a lack of studies on the analysis of both the trending topics and the scientific collaboration network underlying the field of power quality. To address these aspects, an advanced model is used to retrieve data from publications related to power quality and analyse this information using a graph visualisation software and statistical tools. The results suggest that research interests are mainly focused on the analysis of power quality problems and mitigation techniques. Furthermore, they are observed important collaboration networks between researchers within and across countries.
