TL;DR: Results from the Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Decompression Trial indicate that optic nerve decompression surgery for NAION is not effective, may be harmful, and should be abandoned.
Journal ArticleDOI
Health Effects of Depleted Uranium on Exposed Gulf War Veterans
Melissa A. McDiarmid,Melissa A. McDiarmid,James P. Keogh,James P. Keogh,Frank J. Hooper,Kathleen McPhaul,Katherine Squibb,Robert L. Kane,Robert L. Kane,Raymond K. DiPino,Raymond K. DiPino,Michael Kabat,Michael Kabat,Bruce Kaup,Bruce Kaup,Larry D. Anderson,Dennis Hoover,Lawrence Brown,Lawrence Brown,Matthew M. Hamilton,David Jacobson-Kram,Belton A. Burrows,Mark Walsh +22 more
TL;DR: DU-exposed Gulf War veterans with retained metal shrapnel fragments are excreting elevated levels of urinary uranium 7 years after first exposure, suggesting on-going mobilization from a storage depot which results in a chronic systemic exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Teledermatology and in-person examinations: a comparison of patient and physician perceptions and diagnostic agreement.
Mark H. Lowitt,Irving I. Kessler,C. Lisa Kauffman,Frank J. Hooper,Eliot L. Siegel,Joseph W. Burnett +5 more
TL;DR: Physicians and patients were satisfied with teledermatology examinations and diagnostic agreement between in-person and video dermatologists was high.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of filmless radiology on frequency of clinician consultations with radiologists.
Bruce I. Reiner,Eliot L. Siegel,Zenon Protopapas,Frank J. Hooper,H Ghebrekidan,Mary H. Scanlon +5 more
TL;DR: The transition to filmless operation at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center was associated with an 82% reduction in the in-person consultation rate for general radiography and a 44% reduction for cross-sectional imaging despite an increase in the volume of studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiologists' productivity in the interpretation of CT scans: a comparison of PACS with conventional film.
Bruce I. Reiner,Eliot L. Siegel,Frank J. Hooper,Stephen M. Pomerantz,Andrew Dahlke,David Rallis +5 more
TL;DR: It is found that soft-copy interpretation of CT using a PACS workstation requires less time than interpretation using conventional film hung on a viewbox, and the transition to filmless imaging has the potential to improve radiologists' productivity and report-turnaround time.
