TL;DR: Animal work and limited human data suggest that melatonin does not exacerbate seizures and might decrease them, and animal work has confirmed a neuroprotective effect of melatonin, suggesting a role in minimising neuronal damage from birth asphyxia.

TL;DR: Because many of the reports of behavioral disturbance associated with epilepsy syndromes are anecdotal and do not include validated measures of behavior it would be unwise to draw firm conclusions from them at this stage.
