Climatically induced lake level changes during the last two millennia as reflected in sediments of Laguna Potrok Aike, southern Patagonia (Santa Cruz, Argentina)

TL;DR: The Laguna Potrok Aike lake in southern Patagonia, Argentina, has been analyzed using a multi-proxy approach as discussed by the authors, which reveals an unprecedented continuous high-resolution climatic record for the steppe regions of southern Argentina and reveals that rapid climate changes before the turn of the first millennium were detected followed by medieval droughts which are intersected by moist and/or cold periods of varying durations and intensities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Holocene variability of the Southern Hemisphere westerlies in Argentinean Patagonia (52°S)

TL;DR: In this paper, high-resolution analyses of allochthonous pollen input into crater lake sediments of Laguna Potrok Aike in the semi-arid Patagonian steppe reflect the variability of zonal wind intensities during the Holocene at 52° southern latitude.
Journal ArticleDOI

Geographical and temporal trends in Late Quaternary fire histories of Fuego-Patagonia, South America

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate whether regional differences in fire histories are related to climatic gradients in Fuego-Patagonia, South America, and conclude that fire-conducive climate conditions appear to have been a prerequisite for the spread of fires.
