Late Quaternary central Mediterranean biochronology
Frans Jorissen,Alessandra Asioli,Anna Maria Borsetti,Lucilla Capotondi,J P de Visser,Frits Hilgen,Eelco J. Rohling,K. van der Borg,C. Vergnaud Grazzini,Willem-Jan Zachariasse +9 more
TL;DR: Jorissen et al. as discussed by the authors presented a high-resolution biochronology for the Late Quaternary of the central Mediterranean using Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) t4C dating.
Journal ArticleDOI
Migratory responses of deep-sea benthic foraminifera to variable oxygen conditions: laboratory investigations
TL;DR: The results show that some deep-sea species can actively migrate along the sediment column to reach their favourite microhabitat and suggest that changes in oxygen content are mainly responsible for those migrations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecological evidence from live–dead comparisons of benthic foraminiferal faunas off Cape Blanc (Northwest Africa)
Frans Jorissen,Ingrid Wittling +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of live and dead benthic foraminiferal faunas in a five-station sample transect off Cape Blanc suggests that interspecific differences in living/dead (L/D) ratios are to a large extent determined by seasonal differences in reproduction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Benthic foraminiferal faunas in surface sediments off nw africa: relationship with organic flux to the ocean floor
TL;DR: In this paper, the results were compared with estimated values of the downward organic flux and measured bottom water oxygen concentrations, and it was suggested that this relationship can be used on a local scale as a proxy for paleo-export production.
Journal ArticleDOI
Benthic foraminifera as bio-indicators of drill cutting disposal in tropical east Atlantic outer shelf environments
Meryem Mojtahid,Frans Jorissen,Josiane Durrieu,François Galgani,Hélène Howa,Fabrice Redois,Roger Camps +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a study of benthic foraminiferal faunas from the outer continental shelf off Congo (tropical West Africa), with the aim to determine the impact of the discharge of oily drill cuttings on the sea floor environment, to judge the regenerating capacity of the benthics ecosystem, and to investigate the possibility to develop an environmental monitoring method for open marine continental shelf environments, based on benthicity foraminifera.
