Journal ArticleDOI
Protein disulfide isomerase inhibitors constitute a new class of antithrombotic agents
Reema Jasuja,Freda Passam,Daniel R. Kennedy,Sarah H. Kim,Lotte van Hessem,Lin Lin,Sheryl R. Bowley,Sucharit S. Joshi,James R. Dilks,Bruce Furie,Barbara C. Furie,Robert Flaumenhaft +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that quercetin-3-rutinoside blocks thrombus formation in vivo by inhibiting PDI, and its inhibition may prove to be a useful adjunct in refractory thrombosis diseases that are not controlled with conventional antithrombotic agents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neutrophil activation and NETosis are the major drivers of thrombosis in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
Jose Perdomo,Halina H.L. Leung,Zohra Ahmadi,Feng Yan,James J.H. Chong,Freda Passam,Beng H. Chong +6 more
TL;DR: Neutrophil activation and NETosis are elevated in patients with HIT, and are essential for thrombosis in HIT mouse models, and may lead to new therapeutic strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current concepts on the pathogenesis of the antiphospholipid syndrome.
TL;DR: This review critically examines the experimental evidence underlying the various propositions made to explain how antiphospholipid antibodies may predispose to disease in humans and examines the evidence relating to the immunologic mechanisms that may contribute to the breakage of peripheral tolerance in this disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pleural effusions in hematologic malignancies.
TL;DR: In most cases, the pleural fluid responds to treatment of the primary disease, whereas resistant or relapsing cases may necessitate pleurodesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
How we diagnose the antiphospholipid syndrome
TL;DR: The laboratory and key clinical aspects of antiphospholipid syndrome are examined, with particular focus on anti-beta 2-glycoprotein I (beta(2)GPI) antibodies in view of their recent inclusion in the APS classification criteria.
