Linda Morris Brown,Christine A. Swanson,Gloria Gridley,G. Marie Swanson,Janet B. Schoenberg,Raymond S. Greenberg,Debra T. Silverman,Linda M. Pottern,Richard B. Hayes,Ann G. Schwartz,Jonathan M. Liff,Joseph F. Fraumeni,Robert N. Hoover +12 more
TL;DR: The findings of an increased risk with obesity and decreased risks with intake of raw fruits and vegetables and dietary fiber provide useful directions to pursue in further investigations of this malignancy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
Cigarette Smoking and Pancreas Cancer: a Case—Control Study Based on Direct Interviews
Debra T. Silverman,Janet A. Dunn,Robert N. Hoover,Mark Schiffiman,Keith D. Lillemoe,Janet B. Schoenberg,Linda Morris Brown,Raymond S. Greenberg,Richard B. Hayes,G. Marie Swanson,Sholom Wacholder,Ann G. Schwartz,Jonathan M. Liff,Linda M. Pottern,Linda M. Pottern +14 more
TL;DR: The relationship between cigarette smoking and pancreas cancer risk is likely to be causal, despite the weakness of the dose-response data, and long-term smoking cessation clearly reduces risk, whereas switching from nonfiltered to filtered cigarettes may not be beneficial.
Journal Article
Dietary Factors and Risks for Prostate Cancer among Blacks and Whites in the United States
Richard B. Hayes,Regina G. Ziegler,Gloria Gridley,Christine A. Swanson,Raymond S. Greenberg,G. Marie Swanson,G. Marie Swanson,Janet B. Schoenberg,Debra T. Silverman,Linda Morris Brown,Linda M. Pottern,Jonathan M. Liff,Ann G. Schwartz,Ann G. Schwartz,Joseph F. Fraumeni,Robert N. Hoover +15 more
TL;DR: Risks for advanced prostate cancer were higher with greater intake of foods high in animal fat among blacks and whites and a reduction of fat from animal sources in the diet could lead to decreased incidence and mortality rates for prostate cancer, particularly among American blacks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Excess incidence of squamous cell esophageal cancer among US Black men: role of social class and other risk factors.
Linda Morris Brown,Robert N. Hoover,Debra T. Silverman,Dalsu Baris,Richard B. Hayes,G. Marie Swanson,Janet B. Schoenberg,Raymond S. Greenberg,Jonathan M. Liff,Ann G. Schwartz,Mustafa Dosemeci,Linda M. Pottern,Joseph F. Fraumeni +12 more
TL;DR: Lifestyle modifications, especially a lower intake of alcoholic beverages, would markedly decrease the incidence of squamous cell esophageal cancer in both races and narrow the racial disparity in risk.
