Journal ArticleDOI

A no hydrotropic response root mutant that responds positively to gravitropism in arabidopsis

TL;DR: Results showed that hydrotropism is amenable to genetic analysis and that an ABA signaling pathway participates in sensing water potential gradients through the root cap and that nhr1 seedlings had abnormal root cap morphogenesis and reduced root growth sensitivity to abscisic acid and polar auxin transport inhibitor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biochemical characterization of rotavirus receptors in MA104 cells.

TL;DR: The involvement of N-glycoproteins, glycolipids, and cholesterol in rotavirus infection suggests that the virus receptor(s) might be forming part of lipid microdomains in the cell membrane.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tracking sperm in three-dimensions

TL;DR: A novel method allowing 3D tracking and analysis of the trajectories of multiple free-swimming sperm is described, which found that surface-confined sperm swam 25% slower, produced 3-fold fewer circular revolutions per second, and had trajectors of 134% greater radius of curvature than those sperm swimming freely in 3D.
Journal ArticleDOI

COVASIAM: an image analysis method that allows detection of confluent microbial colonies and colonies of various sizes for automated counting

TL;DR: An automated colony count technique that uses digital imaging technology for detection and separation of confluent microbial colonies and colonies of various sizes growing on petri dishes is introduced and takes advantage of the optical properties of the surfaces of most microbial colonies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differential responses of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) neurons to cold exposure or suckling indicate functional heterogeneity of the TRH system in the paraventricular nucleus of the rat hypothalamus.

TL;DR: The distribution of responsive TRH neurons as defined by the cellular level of proTRH mRNA showed evidence of a functional specialization of TRH cells in the PVN, including the anterior zone where few hypophysiotropic TRHergic cells are believed to reside.
