Journal ArticleDOI

Design, synthesis and anticancer activities of stilbene-coumarin hybrid compounds: Identification of novel proapoptotic agents.

TL;DR: The present study suggests that the 7-methoxycoumarin nucleus, together with the 3,5-disubstitution pattern of the trans-vinylbenzene moiety, are likely promising structural features to obtain excellent antitumor compounds endowed with a apoptosis-inducing capability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selective benzopyranone and pyrimido[2,1-a]isoquinolin-4-one inhibitors of DNA-dependent protein kinase: synthesis, structure-activity studies, and radiosensitization of a human tumor cell line in vitro.

TL;DR: These structural classes were identified as novel DNA-PK inhibitors and delineated initial structure-activity relationships against DNA- PK, with only a 2-morpholino or 2-(2'-methyl morpholino) group being tolerated at this position.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanisms of replication and repair in mitochondrial DNA deletion formation

TL;DR: The role of replication and repair in mtDNA deletion formation as well as nucleic acid motifs such as repeats, secondary structures, and DNA damage associated with deletion formation in the mitochondrial genome are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis and biological evaluation of new taxoids derived from 2-deacetoxytaxinine J.

TL;DR: A small library of 2-deacetoxytaxinine J (DAT-J- 1 derivatives was synthesised and tested in vitro for their reversal activity in human mammary carcinoma MDR cell line MCF7-R and one of the new taxoids showed to be active at 0.1 microM when tested in combination with paclitaxel.
