The Maastricht Ultrasound Shoulder pain trial (MUST): Ultrasound imaging as a diagnostic triage tool to improve management of patients with non-chronic shoulder pain in primary care
Ramon P G Ottenheijm,Manuela A. Joore,Geert H I M Walenkamp,René E. Weijers,Bjorn Winkens,Jochen W L Cals,Rob A. de Bie,Geert-Jan Dinant +7 more
TL;DR: The aim of this paper is to describe the design and methods of a trial assessing the cost-effectiveness of ultrasound imaging as a diagnostic triage tool to improve management of primary care patients with non-chronic shoulder pain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Childhood fever: a qualitative study on GPs' experiences during out-of-hours care
Eefje G P M de Bont,Kirsten Peetoom,Albine Moser,Nick A Francis,Geert-Jan Dinant,Jochen W L Cals +5 more
TL;DR: Improving information exchange during consultations and in the general public to young parents could help provide a safety net thereby enhancing self-management, reducing consultations and workload, and subsequent antibiotic prescriptions.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of smoking on influenza, influenza vaccination efficacy and on the antibody response to influenza vaccination
TL;DR: It is concluded that smoking has no clinical or preventive significance for risk of influenza in the elderly and the antibody response after vaccination in previous studies on influenza and other infectious diseases is not reflected in a better protection for clinical influenza.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence based management of acute bronchitis; sustained competence of enhanced communication skills acquisition in general practice
Jochen W L Cals,Nicole A. M. Scheppers,Rogier M. Hopstaken,Kerenza Hood,Geert-Jan Dinant,Henk Goettsch,Christopher C Butler +6 more
TL;DR: Specific communication skills for acute bronchitis can be successfully acquired by GPs through context-rich communication training with peer review of transcripts with simulated patients, without making consultation length unfeasible.
Journal ArticleDOI
The added value of C-reactive protein measurement in diagnosing pneumonia in primary care: a meta-analysis of individual patient data
Margaretha C. Minnaard,Joris A. H. de Groot,Rogier M. Hopstaken,Alwin Schierenberg,Niek J. de Wit,Johannes B. Reitsma,Berna D L Broekhuizen,Saskia F. de Vries-van Vugt,Arie Knuistingh Neven,AW Graffelman,Hasse Melbye,Timothy H. Rainer,Johann Steurer,Anette Holm,Ralph Gonzales,Geert-Jan Dinant,Alma C van de Pol,Theo J M Verheij +17 more
TL;DR: Adding CRP measurement to the diagnostic work-up for suspected pneumonia in primary care improved the discrimination and risk classification of patients, but it still left a substantial group of patients classified at intermediate risk, in which clinical decision-making remains challenging.
