Geophysical validation of temperature retrieved by the ESA processor from MIPAS/ENVISAT atmospheric limb-emission measurements
Marco Ridolfi,U. Blum,Bruno Carli,Valéry Catoire,Simone Ceccherini,Hans Claude,C. de Clercq,K. H. Fricke,Felix Friedl-Vallon,Marco Iarlori,Philippe Keckhut,Brian Kerridge,Jean-Christopher Lambert,Yasjka Meijer,Lucia Mona,Hermann Oelhaf,Gelsomina Pappalardo,Michel Pirre,Vincenzo Rizi,Claude Robert,D. P. J. Swart,T. von Clarmann,Alison Waterfall,Gerald Wetzel +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, a geophysical validation of the temperature profiles derived from MIPAS measurements by the ESA retrieval algorithm is carried out by comparing MIPAs temperature with correlative measurements made by radiosondes, lidars, in-situ and remote sensors operated either from the ground or stratospheric balloons.
Journal ArticleDOI
EARLINET: potential operationality of a research network
Michaël Sicard,Giuseppe D'Amico,Adolfo Comerón,Lucia Mona,Lucas Alados-Arboledas,Aldo Amodeo,Holger Baars,José María Baldasano,José María Baldasano,Livio Belegante,Ioannis Binietoglou,Juan Antonio Bravo-Aranda,A.J. Tsaknakis,Frank Wagner,Gelsomina Pappalardo +44 more
TL;DR: The paper draws present and future SCC users' attention to the most critical parameters of the SCC product configuration and their possible optimal value but also to the limitations inherent to the raw data.
Journal ArticleDOI
An automatic observation-based aerosol typing method for EARLINET
Nikolaos Papagiannopoulos,Lucia Mona,Aldo Amodeo,Giuseppe D'Amico,Pilar Gumà Claramunt,Gelsomina Pappalardo,Lucas Alados-Arboledas,Juan Luis Guerrero-Rascado,Vassilis Amiridis,Panagiotis Kokkalis,Arnoud Apituley,Holger Baars,Anja Schwarz,Ulla Wandinger,Ioannis Binietoglou,Doina Nicolae,Daniele Bortoli,Adolfo Comerón,Alejandro Rodríguez-Gómez,Michaël Sicard,Alex Papayannis,Matthias Wiegner +21 more
TL;DR: The presented algorithm has proven to be highly versatile as it adapts to changes in the size of the training dataset and the number of aerosol classes and classifying parameters and is extremely suitable for the implementation within the single calculus chain (SCC), the EARLINET centralized processing suite.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of lidar depolarization uncertainty by means of a polarimetric lidar simulator
Juan Antonio Bravo-Aranda,Juan Antonio Bravo-Aranda,Livio Belegante,Volker Freudenthaler,Lucas Alados-Arboledas,Doina Nicolae,María José Granados-Muñoz,Juan Luis Guerrero-Rascado,Aldo Amodeo,Giusseppe D'Amico,Ronny Engelmann,Gelsomina Pappalardo,P. Kokkalis,Rodanthy Mamouri,Alex Papayannis,Francisco Navas-Guzmán,Francisco Navas-Guzmán,Francisco Olmo,Ulla Wandinger,Francesco Amato,Martial Haeffelin +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new tool to assess the systematic error of the volume linear depolarization ratio (δ), combining the Stokes-Muller formalism and the complete sampling of the error space using the lidar model presented in Freudenthaler.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ceilometer aerosol profiling versus Raman lidar in the frame of the INTERACT campaign of ACTRIS
TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-wavelength Raman lidar measurements are used to investigate the capability of ceilometers to provide reliable information about atmospheric aerosol properties through the INTERACT (Intercomparison of Aerosol and Cloud Tracking) campaign carried out at the CNR-IMAA Atmospheric Observatory (760 m a.s.l., 40.60° N, 15.72° E), in the framework of the ACTRIS (Aerosol Clouds Trace gases Research InfraStructure) FP7 project.
