Journal ArticleDOI
Indirect coupling to Na+ of p-aminohippuric acid uptake into rat renal basolateral membrane vesicles
TL;DR: It is proposed that dicarboxylates are cotransported with Na+ into the cell and subsequently exchange for extracellular PAH at the basolateral membrane and PAH uptake is thereby indirectly coupled to Na+ via the Na+/dicar boxylate cotranporter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characteristics of glycylsarcosine transport in rabbit intestinal brush-border membrane vesicles.
TL;DR: The data suggest that in rabbit intestinal brush-border membrane vesicles, glycylsarcosine and proton(s) are co-transported, this process results in a net transport of positive charge across the membrane and a single transport system is involved in the translocation of glycyl-L-proline and glycylarcosines.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effects of potassium and membrane potential on sodium-dependent glutamic acid uptake.
TL;DR: The data indicate that Na+-dependent L-glutamic acid transport can be additionally energized by a K+ gradient, and that intravesicular K+ render Na+/substantial changes in the transmembrane electrical potential difference sensitive to changes to the membrane potential.
Book ChapterDOI
Membrane transport of anions across epithelia of mammalian small intestine and kidney proximal tubule.

Journal ArticleDOI
Proton pathways in rat renal brush-border and basolateral membranes
Ivan Sabolić,Gerhard Burckhardt +1 more
TL;DR: The restriction of the electroneutral Na+-H+ exchanger to the luminal membrane can explain net secretion of protons in the mammalian proximal tubule which leads to the reabsorption of bicarbonate.
