Hermann Ehrlich,Micha Ilan,Manuel Maldonado,Guilherme Muricy,Giorgio Bavestrello,Zoran Kljajić,José Luis Carballo,Stefano Schiaparelli,Alexander V. Ereskovsky,Peter J. Schupp,René Born,Hartmut Worch,Vasilii V. Bazhenov,Denis V. Kurek,Valery P. Varlamov,Denis V. Vyalikh,Kurt Kummer,Vadim Sivkov,Serguei L. Molodtsov,Heike Meissner,Gert Richter,Eric Steck,Wiltrud Richter,S. Hunoldt,Martin Kammer,Silvia Paasch,V. Krasokhin,Greta R. Patzke,Eike Brunner +28 more
TL;DR: A detailed study of the structural and physico-chemical properties of three-dimensional skeletal scaffolds of the marine sponges Aiolochroia crassa, Aplysina aerophoba, and A. cavernicola shows that these fibrous scaffolds have a multilayered design and are made of chitin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Three-dimensional chitin-based scaffolds from Verongida sponges (Demospongiae: Porifera). Part II: Biomimetic potential and applications
Hermann Ehrlich,Eric Steck,Micha Ilan,Manuel Maldonado,Guilherme Muricy,Giorgio Bavestrello,Zoran Kljajić,José Luis Carballo,Stefano Schiaparelli,Alexander V. Ereskovsky,Peter J. Schupp,René Born,Hartmut Worch,Vasilii V. Bazhenov,Denis V. Kurek,Valery P. Varlamov,Denis V. Vyalikh,Kurt Kummer,Vadim Sivkov,Serguei L. Molodtsov,Heike Meissner,Gert Richter,S. Hunoldt,Martin Kammer,Silvia Paasch,V. Krasokhin,Greta R. Patzke,Eike Brunner,Wiltrud Richter +28 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that chitin sponge scaffolds, apart from the demonstrated biomedical applications, are highly optimized structures for use as filtering systems, templates for biomineralization as well as metallization in order to produce catalysts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nanohybrid vs. fine hybrid composite in Class II cavities: clinical results and margin analysis after four years.
TL;DR: This controlled prospective split-mouth study evaluated the clinical behavior of two different resin composites in extended Class II cavities over a period of four years, finding both recall rate and survival rate were 100% after four years of clinical service.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preparation of chitin-silica composites by in vitro silicification of two-dimensional Ianthella basta demosponge chitinous scaffolds under modified Stöber conditions
Marcin Wysokowski,Thomas Behm,René Born,Vasilii V. Bazhenov,Heike Meißner,Gert Richter,Karolina Szwarc-Rzepka,Anna A. Makarova,Denis V. Vyalikh,Peter J. Schupp,Teofil Jesionowski,Hermann Ehrlich +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown here for the first time that the two-dimensional α-chitin scaffolds isolated from the skeletons of marine demosponge Ianthella basta can be effectively silicified by theTwo-step method with the use of Stöber silica micro- and nanodispersions under Extreme Biomimetic conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical properties of polyamide-12 versus PMMA denture base material.
TL;DR: Neither surface roughness nor elasticity of PA was altered by artificial aging, and PA exhibited a higher susceptibility to discoloration than PMMA.
