Journal ArticleDOI
LOWERing the INtensity of oral anticoaGulant Therapy in patients with bileaflet mechanical aortic valve replacement: Results from the “LOWERING-IT” Trial
Michele Torella,Daniele Torella,Daniele Torella,Paolo Chiodini,Marco Franciulli,Giampaolo Romano,Luca Salvatore De Santo,Marisa De Feo,Cristiano Amarelli,Ferdinando Carlo Sasso,Teresa Salvatore,Georgina M. Ellison,Ciro Indolfi,Maurizio Cotrufo,Gianantonio Nappi +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, a prospective open-label, single-center, randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of reduced oral anticoagulation after isolated mechanical aortic valve replacement.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ascending aorta with bicuspid aortic valve: a phenotypic classification with potential prognostic significance
Alessandro Della Corte,Ciro Bancone,Giovanni Dialetto,F. E. Covino,Sabrina Manduca,M.V. Montibello,Marisa De Feo,Marianna Buonocore,Gianantonio Nappi +8 more
TL;DR: When tested on a large population, three previously suggested phenotypic classifications of the BAV aorta proved to categorize patients into significantly different clusters, but only the classification system distinguishing between ascending phenotype and root phenotype showed a potential prognostic value.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgical treatment of bicuspid aortic valve disease: Knowledge gaps and research perspectives
Alessandro Della Corte,Simon C. Body,Anna M. Booher,Hans J. Schaefers,Rita K. Milewski,Hector I. Michelena,Arturo Evangelista,Philippe Pibarot,Patrick Mathieu,Giuseppe Limongelli,Prem Shekar,Sary F. Aranki,Andrea Ballotta,Giuseppe Di Benedetto,Natzi Sakalihasan,Gianantonio Nappi,Kim A. Eagle,Joseph E. Bavaria,Alessandro Frigiola,Thoralf M. Sundt +19 more
TL;DR: Most of the stenotic valves explanted at the time of aortic valve replacement are congenitally malformed, as a consequence of the epidemiologic and surgical complications of its valvular and vascular complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carbonic Anhydrase Activation Is Associated With Worsened Pathological Remodeling in Human Ischemic Diabetic Cardiomyopathy
Daniele Torella,Georgina M. Ellison,Georgina M. Ellison,Michele Torella,Carla Vicinanza,Carla Vicinanza,Iolanda Aquila,Claudio Iaconetti,Mariangela Scalise,Fabiola Marino,Beverley J. Henning,Fiona C. Lewis,Clarice Gareri,Nadia Lascar,Giovanni Cuda,Teresa Salvatore,Gianantonio Nappi,Ciro Indolfi,Roberto Torella,Domenico Cozzolino,Ferdinando Carlo Sasso +20 more
TL;DR: Myocardial CA activation is significantly elevated in human diabetic ischemic cardiomyopathy, and CA‐II was shown to be a direct target for repression by microRNA‐23b, which was downregulated in myocardial samples from DM‐T2 patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
The need for a specific risk prediction system in native valve infective endocarditis surgery.
Marisa De Feo,Maurizio Cotrufo,Antonio Carozza,Luca Salvatore De Santo,F Amendolara,Salvatore Giordano,Ester Della Ratta,Gianantonio Nappi,Alessandro Della Corte +8 more
TL;DR: Bivariate and multivariate analysis of early postoperative mortality predictors in 440 native valve IE patients were performed, and IE-specific risk stratification models are both needed.
