Journal ArticleDOI
TRANSFORMING GROWTH FACTOR-BETA 1 (TGF-β1) INDUCES ANGIOGENESIS THROUGH VASCULAR ENDOTHELIAL GROWTH FACTOR (VEGF)-MEDIATED APOPTOSIS
TL;DR: It is reported that VEGF‐mediated apoptosis is required for TGF‐β1 induction of angiogenesis, and this novel, unexpected role of V EGF and VEGFR2 indicates VEGf‐ mediated apoptosis as a potential target to controlAngiogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Our Italian experience using lung ultrasound for identification, grading and serial follow-up of severity of lung involvement for management of patients with COVID-19.
Luigi Vetrugno,Tiziana Bove,Daniele Orso,Federico Barbariol,Flavio Bassi,Enrico Boero,Giovanni Ferrari,Robert Kong +7 more
TL;DR: Use of LU has helped in clinical decision making and reduced the use of both chest x‐rays and computed tomography (CT) in patients with suspected or documented COVID‐19 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
VEGF, a prosurvival factor, acts in concert with TGF-β1 to induce endothelial cell apoptosis
Giovanni Ferrari,Giuseppe Pintucci,Graziano Seghezzi,Kevin M Hyman,Aubrey C. Galloway,Paolo Mignatti +5 more
TL;DR: It is found that TGF-β1 promotes endothelial cell expression of FGF-2, which up-regulates VEGF synthesis, which illustrates an unexpected role of V EGF and indicates that VEGf can be pharmacologically converted into an apoptotic factor, a novel approach to antiangiogenesis therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Propensity matched analysis of bilateral internal mammary artery versus single left internal mammary artery grafting at 17-year follow-up: validation of a contemporary surgical experience.
Juan B. Grau,Giovanni Ferrari,Andrew W C Mak,Richard E. Shaw,Mariano E. Brizzio,Bruce P. Mindich,John Strobeck,Alex Zapolanski +7 more
TL;DR: Perioperative complications do not increase with the use of BIMAs, and long-term survival is optimized with off-pump CABG and BIMA grafting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 binding to membrane-type 1 matrix metalloproteinase induces MAPK activation and cell growth by a non-proteolytic mechanism.
Silvia D'Alessio,Giovanni Ferrari,Karma M. Cinnante,William Scheerer,Aubrey C. Galloway,Daniel F. Roses,Dmitri V. Rozanov,Albert G. Remacle,Eok Soo Oh,Sergey A. Shiryaev,Alex Y. Strongin,Giuseppe Pintucci,Paolo Mignatti +12 more
TL;DR: A novel role is illustrated for MT1-MMP-TIMP-2 interaction, which controls cell functions by a mechanism independent of extracellular matrix degradation, which promotes tumor growth in vivo and control cell proliferation and migration through a non-proteolytic mechanism.
