Journal ArticleDOI
Mammography with synchrotron radiation: phase-detection techniques.
Fulvia Arfelli,Bonvicini,Alberto Bravin,Giovanni Cantatore,E. Castelli,L. Dalla Palma,M. Di Michiel,M Fabrizioli,R. Longo,Ralf Hendrik Menk,Alessandro Olivo,Silvia Pani,Diego Pontoni,P. Poropat,M. Prest,Alexander Rashevsky,M Ratti,L. Rigon,Giuliana Tromba,Andrea Vacchi,E. Vallazza,Fabrizio Zanconati +21 more
TL;DR: The authors evaluated the effect on mammographic examinations of the use of synchrotron radiation to detect phase-perturbation effects, which are higher than absorption effects for soft tissue in the energy range of 15-25 keV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low-dose phase contrast x-ray medical imaging
Fulvia Arfelli,M. Assante,V. Bonvicini,Alberto Bravin,Giovanni Cantatore,E. Castelli,L. Dalla Palma,M. Di Michiel,Renata Longo,Alessandro Olivo,Silvia Pani,Diego Pontoni,P. Poropat,M. Prest,A. Rashevsky,Giuliana Tromba,Andrea Vacchi,E. Vallazza,Fabrizio Zanconati +18 more
TL;DR: Low absorbing details within breast tissue, invisible with conventional techniques, are detected by means of the proposed phase contrast imaging method, and the use of a bending magnet radiation source relaxes the previously reported requirements on source size.
Journal ArticleDOI
An innovative digital imaging set-up allowing a low-dose approach to phase contrast applications in the medical field
Alessandro Olivo,Fulvia Arfelli,Giovanni Cantatore,Renata Longo,Ralf Hendrik Menk,Silvia Pani,M. Prest,P. Poropat,Luigi Rigon,Giuliana Tromba,E. Vallazza,E. Castelli +11 more
TL;DR: An innovative setup capable of removing the pixel size constraints, and thus opening the way to low dose digital phase contrast imaging, is described and an imaging technique based on the detection of radiation scattered at small angles is introduced: the information extracted from the sample is increased at no dose expense.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
The SYRMEP Beamline of Elettra: Clinical Mammography and Bio-medical Applications
Giuliana Tromba,Renata Longo,A. Abrami,Fulvia Arfelli,Alberto Astolfo,P. Bregant,Francesco Brun,K. Casarin,V. Chenda,Diego Dreossi,Markéta Holá,Jozef Kaiser,Lucia Mancini,Ralf Hendrik Menk,E. Quai,Emilio Quaia,L. Rigon,T. Rokvic,Nicola Sodini,D. Sanabor,Elisabeth Schültke,Maura Tonutti,A. Vascotto,Fabrizio Zanconati,Maria Assunta Cova,E. Castelli +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, a software tool, Pore3D, has been developed to perform a quantitative morphological analysis on the reconstructed slices and to access textural information of the sample under study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Three-dimensional quantitative analysis of bread crumb by X-ray microtomography.
Pasquale Massimiliano Falcone,Antonietta Baiano,Franco Zanini,Lucia Mancini,Giuliana Tromba,D. Dreossi,Francesco Montanari,Nicola Scuor,Matteo Alessandro Del Nobile +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used phase-sensitive X-ray microtomography (PSX) for the computerized reconstruction of 3D images of bread crumb microstructure.
