Journal ArticleDOI

The breast cancer resistance protein BCRP (ABCG2) concentrates drugs and carcinogenic xenotoxins into milk.

TL;DR: The multidrug transporter BCRP is strongly induced in the mammary gland of mice, cows and humans during lactation and it is responsible for the active secretion of clinically and toxicologically important substrates such as the dietary carcinogen PhIP, the anticancer drug topotecan and the antiulcerative cimetidine into mouse milk.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human breast cancer resistance protein : Interactions with steroid drugs, hormones, the dietary carcinogen 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo(4,5-b)pyridine, and transport of cimetidine

TL;DR: The H2-receptor antagonist drug cimetidine was identified as a novel efficiently transported substrate for human BCRP and mouse Bcrp1, and none of the tested endogenous steroids or synthetic glucocorticoids or digoxin, however, were transported substrates of B CRP.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multidrug Transporter ABCG2/Breast Cancer Resistance Protein Secretes Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) into Milk

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that BCRP is responsible for pumping riboflavin (vitamin B2) into milk, thus supplying the young with this important nutrient and establishes the principle that an ABC transporter can transport a vitamin into milk and raises the possibility that other vitamins and nutrients are likewise secreted into milk by ABC transporters.
Journal ArticleDOI

The breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP/ABCG2) affects pharmacokinetics, hepatobiliary excretion, and milk secretion of the antibiotic nitrofurantoin.

TL;DR: It is concluded that Bcrp1 is an important determinant for the bioavailability of nitrofurantoin and the main mechanism involved in its hepatobiliary excretion and secretion into the milk.
Journal ArticleDOI

Breast cancer resistance protein (bcrp/abcg2) transports fluoroquinolone antibiotics and affects their oral availability, pharmacokinetics, and milk secretion

TL;DR: It is concluded that Bcrp1 is one of the determinants for the bioavailability of fluoroquinolones and their secretion into the milk.
