Journal ArticleDOI
Biphasic transmittance waveform in the APTT coagulation assay is due to the formation of a Ca++-dependent complex of C-reactive protein with very-low–density lipoprotein and is a novel marker of impending disseminated intravascular coagulation
Cheng Hock Toh,John A. Samis,Colin Downey,John Walker,Lev Becker,Nicole Brufatto,Liliana Tejidor,Greg Jones,Wim P.M. Houdijk,Alan R. Giles,Marlys L. Koschinsky,Larry O. Ticknor,Ray Paton,Richard Wenstone,Michael E. Nesheim +14 more
TL;DR: Clinically, the biphasic waveform (BPW) better predicts for DIC than either CRP or triglyceride alone and may have pathophysiological implications because CRP can be detected in the VLDL fraction from sera of patients with the BPW, and the V LDL fraction has enhanced prothrombinase surface activity.
Journal Article
Lipoprotein-complexed C-reactive protein and the biphasic transmittance waveform in critically ill patients.
Michael E. Nesheim,John A. Samis,John Walker,Lev Becker,Nicole Brufatto,Timothy J. Fischer,Liliana Tejidor,Greg Jones,Wim P.M. Houdijk,Alan R. Giles,Marlys L. Koschinsky,Richard Wenstone,Colin Downey,Cheng Hock Toh +13 more
TL;DR: The present work shows that the BTW is due to the rapid formation of a precipitate and a coincident change in turbidity in re-calcified plasma, which correlated well with the calculated level of the CRP/VLDL complex.
Journal ArticleDOI
Therapeutic knockdown of miR-320 improves deteriorated cardiac function in a pre-clinical model of non-ischemic diabetic heart disease
Nilanjan Ghosh,Sonya Fenton,Isabelle van Hout,Greg Jones,Sean Coffey,Michael J.A. Williams,Ramanen Sugunesegran,Dominic Parry,Philip Davis,Daryl O. Schwenke,Anirudha Chatterjee,Rajesh Katare +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the pathological role of cardiomyocyte-enriched pro-apoptotic miR-320 in the development of NiDHD was determined, and it was shown that therapeutic knockdown of microRNAs is beneficial in partially restoring the deteriorated cardiac function.
Journal ArticleDOI
The formation of a CA2+-dependent complex of C-reactive protein and very low density lipoprotein causes the biphasic transmittance waveform
Michael E. Nesheim,John A. Samis,John Walker,Timothy Fischer,Timothy Fischer,Liliana Tejidor,Greg Jones,Wim P.M. Houdijk,Alan R. Giles,Lev Becker,Marlys L. Koschinsky,Richard Wenstone,Colin Downey,Cheng Hock Toh +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that a stepwise increase in the likelihood of mortality was directly correlated with the from 3rd International Conference on cGMP Generators, Effectors and Therapeutic Implications Dresden, Germany.
