Journal ArticleDOI
Improved Early Detection of Sepsis in the ED With a Novel Monocyte Distribution Width Biomarker
Elliott D. Crouser,Joseph E. Parrillo,Christopher W. Seymour,Derek C. Angus,Keri Bicking,Liliana Tejidor,Robert T. Magari,Diana B. Careaga,JoAnna Williams,Douglas R. Closser,Michael K. Samoszuk,Luke Herren,Emily Robart,Fernando Chaves +13 more
TL;DR: The incorporation of MDW with WBC count is shown in this prospective cohort study to improve detection of sepsis compared withWBC count alone at the time of admission in the ED.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biphasic transmittance waveform in the APTT coagulation assay is due to the formation of a Ca++-dependent complex of C-reactive protein with very-low–density lipoprotein and is a novel marker of impending disseminated intravascular coagulation
Cheng Hock Toh,John A. Samis,Colin Downey,John Walker,Lev Becker,Nicole Brufatto,Liliana Tejidor,Greg Jones,Wim P.M. Houdijk,Alan R. Giles,Marlys L. Koschinsky,Larry O. Ticknor,Ray Paton,Richard Wenstone,Michael E. Nesheim +14 more
TL;DR: Clinically, the biphasic waveform (BPW) better predicts for DIC than either CRP or triglyceride alone and may have pathophysiological implications because CRP can be detected in the VLDL fraction from sera of patients with the BPW, and the V LDL fraction has enhanced prothrombinase surface activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monocyte Distribution Width: A Novel Indicator of Sepsis-2 and Sepsis-3 in High-Risk Emergency Department Patients.
Elliott D. Crouser,Joseph E. Parrillo,Christopher W. Seymour,Derek C. Angus,Keri Bicking,Vincent G. Esguerra,Octavia M Peck-Palmer,Robert T. Magari,Mark W. Julian,Jennifer M. Kleven,Paarth J. Raj,Gabrielle Procopio,Diana B. Careaga,Liliana Tejidor +13 more
TL;DR: This research presents a novel probabilistic approach that allows us to assess the importance of knowing the carrier and removal status of canine coronavirus, as a source of infection for other animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monocyte distribution width enhances early sepsis detection in the emergency department beyond SIRS and qSOFA.
Elliott D. Crouser,Joseph E. Parrillo,Greg S. Martin,David T. Huang,Pierre Hausfater,Ilya L. Grigorov,Diana B. Careaga,Tiffany M. Osborn,Hasan Mohamad,Liliana Tejidor +9 more
TL;DR: This study supports the incorporation of MDW with other readily available clinical parameters during the initial ED encounter for the early detection of sepsis and is complementary to SIRS and qSOFA parameters that are currently used for this purpose.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monocyte distribution width (MDW) performance as an early sepsis indicator in the emergency department: comparison with CRP and procalcitonin in a multicenter international European prospective study
Pierre Hausfater,Neus Robert Boter,Cristian Morales Indiano,Marta Cancella de Abreu,Adria Mendoza Marin,Julie Pernet,Dolores Quesada,Iris Castro,Diana B. Careaga,Michel Arock,Liliana Tejidor,Laetitia Velly +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the performance of MDW for the detection of sepsis in the emergency department (ED) and to compare to procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP).
