First record of crustose coralline algae diseases in the Red Sea
Posted ContentDOI
A comparative baseline of coral disease across the central Red Sea
Greta S. Aeby,Amanda Shore,Thor Jensen,Maren Ziegler,Maren Ziegler,Thierry M. Work,Christian R. Voolstra,Christian R. Voolstra +7 more
TL;DR: The Red Sea is a unique environment for corals with a strong environmental gradient characterized by temperature extremes and high salinities, but minimal terrestrial runoff or riverine input and their associated pollution as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of disease lesion removal as a method to control chronic Montipora white syndrome.
TL;DR: It is shown that removal of chronic disease lesions is a potential method to slow the progression of cMWS in M. capitata, and results indicate that lesion removal reduced morbidity in the colony but did not stop the disease.
Posted ContentDOI
Case-control design identifies ecological drivers of endemic coral diseases
Jamie M. Caldwell,Jamie M. Caldwell,Greta S. Aeby,Scott F. Heron,Scott F. Heron,Megan J. Donahue +5 more
TL;DR: Evidence is found that 1) larger corals have higher disease risk and 2) shallow reefs with low herbivorous fish abundance, limited water motion, and located adjacent to watersheds with high fertilizer and pesticide runoff promote low levels of growth anomalies, a chronic coral disease.
