Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative Oligo-FISH Mapping: An Efficient and Powerful Methodology To Reveal Karyotypic and Chromosomal Evolution.
Guilherme T. Braz,Guilherme T. Braz,Li He,Hainan Zhao,Tao Zhang,Tao Zhang,Kassandra Semrau,Jean Marie Rouillard,Giovana Augusta Torres,Jiming Jiang,Jiming Jiang +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the oligo-based FISH techniques are powerful new tools for chromosome identification and karyotyping research, especially for nonmodel plant species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chromosome painting in meiosis reveals pairing of specific chromosomes in polyploid Solanum species
TL;DR: The results suggest that S. demissum has evolved into a cytologically stable state with predominantly bivalent pairing in meiosis, and oligonucleotide-based painting probes for four different potato chromosomes are developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome Reduction in Tetraploid Potato Reveals Genetic Load, Haplotype Variation, and Loci Associated With Agronomic Traits.
Norma C. Manrique-Carpintero,Joseph Coombs,Gina M. Pham,F. Parker E. Laimbeer,Guilherme T. Braz,Jiming Jiang,Richard E. Veilleux,C. Robin Buell,David S. Douches +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the potentially deleterious mutations associated with genetic load in tetraploid potato could be mitigated by multiple loci which is consistent with the theory that epistasis complicates the identification of associations between markers and phenotypic performance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Amplification and adaptation of centromeric repeats in polyploid switchgrass species.
Xueming Yang,Hainan Zhao,Hainan Zhao,Tao Zhang,Tao Zhang,Zixian Zeng,Zixian Zeng,Pingdong Zhang,Pingdong Zhang,Bo Zhu,Yonghua Han,Yonghua Han,Guilherme T. Braz,Guilherme T. Braz,Michael D. Casler,Jeremy Schmutz,Jiming Jiang,Jiming Jiang +17 more
TL;DR: This work identifies eight satellite repeats in the centromeres of tetraploid switchgrass and demonstrates that a 5S ribosomal RNA gene array was recruited to be the functional centromere for one of the switchgrass chromosomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chorus2: design of genome-scale oligonucleotide-based probes for fluorescence in situ hybridization.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Chorus2 is highly effective to remove all repetitive elements in selection of single copy oligos, which is critical for the development of successful FISH probes.
