Journal ArticleDOI
Colonization with the enteric protozoa Blastocystis is associated with increased diversity of human gut bacterial microbiota
Christophe Audebert,Gaël Even,Amandine Cian,Dima El Safadi,Gabriela Certad,Laurence Delhaes,Bruno Pereira,Céline Nourrisson,Philippe Poirier,Ivan Wawrzyniak,Frédéric Delbac,Christelle Morelle,Patrick Bastien,Laurence Lachaud,Anne-Pauline Bellanger,Françoise Botterel,Ermanno Candolfi,Guillaume Desoubeaux,Florent Morio,Christelle Pomares,Meja Rabodonirina,Alexandre Loywick,Sophie Merlin,Eric Viscogliosi,Magali Chabé +24 more
TL;DR: A higher bacterial diversity in faecal microbiota of Blastocystis colonized patients, a higher abundance of Clostridia as well as a lower abundance of Enterobacteriaceae is reported, contributing to suggesting that BlastocyStis colonization is usually associated with a healthy gut microbiota, rather than with gut dysbiosis generally observed in metabolic or infectious inflammatory diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inherited CARD9 deficiency in otherwise healthy children and adults with Candida species-induced meningoencephalitis, colitis, or both
Fanny Lanternier,Fanny Lanternier,Seyed Alireza Mahdaviani,Elisa Barbati,Elisa Barbati,Hélène Chaussade,Yatrika Koumar,Romain Lévy,Romain Lévy,Blandine Denis,A. S. Brunel,Sophie Martin,Michèle Loop,Julie Peeters,Ariel de Selys,Jean Vanclaire,Christiane Vermylen,Marie-Cécile Nassogne,Olga Chatzis,Luyan Liu,Luyan Liu,Mélanie Migaud,Mélanie Migaud,Vincent Pedergnana,Vincent Pedergnana,Guillaume Desoubeaux,Grégory Jouvion,Fabrice Chrétien,Ilad Alavi Darazam,Alejandro A. Harrison,Capucine Picard,Olivier Lortholary,Olivier Lortholary,Davood Mansouri,Jean-Laurent Casanova,Anne Puel,Anne Puel +46 more
TL;DR: Invasive infections of the central nervous system (CNS) or digestive tract caused by commensal fungi of the genus Candida are rare and life-threatening as discussed by the authors, with patients often displaying a history of multiple infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of two matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) systems for the identification of Candida species
Claire Lacroix,A. Gicquel,Boualem Sendid,J. Meyer,Isabelle Accoceberry,Nadine François,Florent Morio,Guillaume Desoubeaux,Jacques Chandenier,C. Kauffmann-Lacroix,Christophe Hennequin,Juliette Guitard,Xavier Nassif,Marie-Elisabeth Bougnoux +13 more
TL;DR: Both MALDI-TOF MS systems are accurate and cost-effective alternatives to conventional methods for mycological identification of clinically relevant Candida species and should improve the diagnosis of fungal infections as well as patient management.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence, risk factors for infection and subtype distribution of the intestinal parasite Blastocystis sp. from a large-scale multi-center study in France
Dima El Safadi,Amandine Cian,Céline Nourrisson,Bruno Pereira,Christelle Morelle,Patrick Bastien,Anne-Pauline Bellanger,Françoise Botterel,Ermanno Candolfi,Guillaume Desoubeaux,Laurence Lachaud,Florent Morio,Christelle Pomares,Meja Rabodonirina,Ivan Wawrzyniak,Frédéric Delbac,Nausicaa Gantois,Gabriela Certad,Laurence Delhaes,Philippe Poirier,Eric Viscogliosi +20 more
TL;DR: A high prevalence of Blastocystis sp.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is real-time PCR-based diagnosis similar in performance to routine parasitological examination for the identification of Giardia intestinalis, Cryptosporidium parvum/Cryptosporidium hominis and Entamoeba histolytica from stool samples? Evaluation of a new commercial multiplex PCR assay and literature review
Adrien Laude,Stéphane Valot,Guillaume Desoubeaux,Nicolas Argy,Céline Nourrisson,Christelle Pomares,Marie Machouart,Y. Le Govic,Frédéric Dalle,Françoise Botterel,Nathalie Bourgeois,Estelle Cateau,M. Leterrier,P. Le Pape,Florent Morio +14 more
TL;DR: This new multiplex PCR assay offers fast and reliable results, similar to microscopy-driven diagnosis for the detection of these gastrointestinal protozoa, allowing its implementation in routine clinical practice.
