Rosuvastatin and cardiovascular events in patients undergoing hemodialysis
Bengt Fellström,Alan G. Jardine,Roland E. Schmieder,Hallvard Holdaas,Kym M. Bannister,J.J. Beutler,Dong Wan Chae,Alejandro Chevaile,Stuart M. Cobbe,Carola Grönhagen-Riska,José Jayme Galvão de Lima,Robert L. Lins,Gert Mayer,Alan W. McMahon,Hans-Henrik Parving,Hans-Henrik Parving,Giuseppe Remuzzi,Ola Samuelsson,Sandor Sonkodi,Gultekin Suleymanlar,Dimitrios Tsakiris,Vladimir Tesar,Vasil Todorov,Andrzej Wiecek,Rudolf P. Wüthrich,Mattis Gottlow,Eva Johnsson,Faiez Zannad +27 more
TL;DR: In patients undergoing hemodialysis, the initiation of treatment with rosuvastatin lowered the LDL cholesterol level but had no significant effect on the composite primary end point of death from cardiovascular causes, nonf fatal myocardial infarction, or nonfatal stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mortality and cardiovascular events in online haemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) compared with high-flux dialysis: results from the Turkish OL-HDF Study
Ercan Ok,Gulay Asci,Huseyin Toz,Ebru Sevinc Ok,Fatih Kircelli,Mümtaz Yilmaz,Ender Hur,Meltem Sezis Demirci,Cenk Demirci,Soner Duman,Ali Basci,Siddig Momin Adam,Ismet Onder Isik,Murat Zengin,Gultekin Suleymanlar,Mehmet Emin Yilmaz,Mehmet Ozkahya +16 more
TL;DR: The composite of all-cause mortality and nonfatal cardiovascular event rate was not different in the OL-HDF and in the high-flux HD groups and, in a post hoc analysis, OL-hDF treatment with substitution volumes over 17.4 L was associated with better cardiovascular and overall survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
A population-based survey of Chronic REnal Disease In Turkey—the CREDIT study
Gultekin Suleymanlar,Cengiz Utas,Turgay Arinsoy,Kenan Ates,Bulent Altun,Mehmet Riza Altiparmak,Tevfik Ecder,Mehmet Emin Yilmaz,Taner Camsari,Ali Basci,Kamil Serdengecti +10 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of CKD in Turkey is 15.7%; it was higher in women than men (18.4% vs. 12.8%, P < 0.001) and increased with increasing age of the subjects, and cardiovascular risk factors were significantly more prevalent in CKD patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The longest-lived transplanted human uterus to date with acquirement of menstrual cycles is described and is described as the first-year results of the first human uterus transplantation case from a multiorgan donor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monocyte subpopulations and cardiovascular risk in chronic kidney disease
Gunnar H. Heine,Alberto Ortiz,Ziad A. Massy,Bengt Lindholm,Andrzej Wiecek,Alberto Martínez-Castelao,Adrian Covic,David Goldsmith,Gultekin Suleymanlar,Gérard M. London,Gianfranco Parati,Rosa Sicari,Carmine Zoccali,Danilo Fliser +13 more
TL;DR: Findings from epidemiological studies indicate that numbers of intermediate monocytes increase with worsening renal function, and that high cell counts predict adverse outcomes in patients undergoing dialysis as well as in patients at early stages of CKD.
