Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental signature of optical wave thermalization through supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fiber.
TL;DR: It is shown that the phenomenon of spectral broadening inherent to supercontinuum generation can be described as a thermalization process, which is characterized by an irreversible evolution of the optical field towards a thermal equilibrium state.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incoherent modulation instability in instantaneous nonlinear Kerr media.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally in an optical fiber system that partially temporally incoherent light exhibits modulational instability during its propagation in an instantaneous response nonlinear medium and that the modulation frequency and gain are substantially increased with respect to the corresponding values of coherent modular instability.
Journal ArticleDOI
A universal optical all-fiber omnipolarizer
Julien Fatome,Stéphane Pitois,Philippe Morin,Elie Assémat,Dominique Sugny,Antonio Picozzi,Hans-Rudolf Jauslin,Guy Millot,Victor V. Kozlov,Victor V. Kozlov,Stefan Wabnitz +10 more
TL;DR: The unexpected capability of light to self-organize its own state-of-polarization, upon propagation in optical fibers, into universal and environmentally robust states, namely right and left circular polarizations is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Far-detuned cascaded intermodal four-wave mixing in a multimode fiber.
R. Dupiol,Abdelkrim Bendahmane,Katarzyna Krupa,Alessandro Tonello,Marc Fabert,Bertrand Kibler,Thibaut Sylvestre,Alain Barthélémy,Vincent Couderc,Stefan Wabnitz,Guy Millot +10 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates far-detuned parametric frequency conversion processes in a few mode graded-index optical fibers pumped by a Q-switched picosecond laser through a complex cascaded process involving inter-modal four-wave mixing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emergence of extreme events in fibre-based parametric processes driven by a partially incoherent pump wave
TL;DR: In this article, experimental evidence of rare optical events in a parametric amplifier in presence of a strong partially incoherent pump wave propagating in fibres with low group velocity dispersion is provided.
