Rapid formation and evolution of an extreme haze episode in Northern China during winter 2015
Yele Sun,Chen Chen,Chen Chen,Yingjie Zhang,Yingjie Zhang,Weiqi Xu,Libo Zhou,Xueling Cheng,Haitao Zheng,Dongsheng Ji,Jie Li,Xiao Tang,Pingqing Fu,Zifa Wang +13 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrate the important role of regional transport, largely from the southwest but also from the east, and of coal combustion emissions for winter haze formation in Beijing and an important downward mixing pathway during the severe haze in 2015 that can lead to rapid increases in certain aerosol species.
Journal ArticleDOI
"APEC Blue": Secondary Aerosol Reductions from Emission Controls in Beijing.
Yele Sun,Zifa Wang,Oliver Wild,Weiqi Xu,Chen Chen,Chen Chen,Pingqing Fu,Wei Du,Libo Zhou,Qi Zhang,Tingting Han,Qingqing Wang,Xiaole Pan,Haitao Zheng,Jie Li,Xiaofeng Guo,Jianguo Liu,Douglas R. Worsnop +17 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that reducing the precursors of secondary aerosol over regional scales is crucial and effective in suppressing the formation of secondary particulates and mitigating PM pollution.
Journal ArticleDOI
A 6-year-long (2013–2018) high-resolution air quality reanalysis dataset in China based on the assimilation of surface observations from CNEMC
Lei Kong,Xiao Tang,Jiang Zhu,Zifa Wang,Jianjun Li,Huangjian Wu,Huangjian Wu,Qizhong Wu,Huansheng Chen,Lili Zhu,Wei Wang,Bing Liu,Qian Wang,Duohong Chen,Yuepeng Pan,Tao Song,Fei Li,Haitao Zheng,Guanglin Jia,Miaomiao Lu,Lin Wu,Gregory R. Carmichael +21 more
TL;DR: Tang et al. as discussed by the authors developed a six-year long high-resolution Chinese air quality reanalysis datasets (CAQRA) by assimilating over 1000 surface air quality monitoring sites from China National Environmental Monitoring Centre (CNEMC) using the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) and the Nested Air Quality Prediction Modeling System (NAQPMS).
Journal ArticleDOI
East Asian dust storm in May 2017: observations, modelling, and its influence on the Asia-Pacific region
Xiao-Xiao Zhang,Brenton Sharratt,Lian-You Liu,Zifa Wang,Xiaole Pan,Jiaqiang Lei,Shi-Xin Wu,Shuang-Yan Huang,Yu-Hong Guo,Jie Li,Xiao Tang,Ting Yang,Yu Tian,Xueshun Chen,Jianqi Hao,Haitao Zheng,Yanyan Yang,Yanli Lyu +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the spatial and temporal characteristics of the Gobi Desert Dust Storm in Central and East Asia during 2-7 May 2017 and its associated impact on the Asia-Pacific region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Importance of mineral dust and anthropogenic pollutants mixing during a long-lasting high PM event over East Asia
Zhe Wang,Zhe Wang,Xiaole Pan,Itsushi Uno,Xueshun Chen,Shigekazu Yamamoto,Haitao Zheng,Jie Li,Zifa Wang +8 more
TL;DR: The results of the NAQPMS model confirmed the importance of dust heterogeneous reactions (HRs) over East Asia and revealed that dust NO3- was mainly formed over the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea before reaching Japan.
