Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of androgens on turnover of ornithine decarboxylase in mouse kidney. Studies using labeling of the enzyme by reaction with [14C] alpha-difluoromethylornithine.

TL;DR: The results indicate that steroid hormones can affect the level of certain proteins by changing the rate of degradation and that the labeling of ornithine decarboxylase by reaction with radioactive alpha-difluoromethylornithine in vivo provides a useful method for studying the degradation of this protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification of ornithine decarboxylase from kidneys of androgen-treated mice.

TL;DR: The purified ornithine decarboxylase was unstable even in the presence of 2.5 mM dithiothreitol and 40 micron pyridoxal phosphate unless 0.02% Brij 35 was added, and could be stored with little loss of activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of α-difluoromethylornithine on polyamine and DNA synthesis in regenerating rat liver: Reversal of inhibition of DNA synthesis by putrescine

TL;DR: It is suggested that part, but not all of the rise in putrescine normally seen in the liver after partial hepatectomy is needed for the enhanced DNA synthesis associated with liver regeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Binding of radioactive α-difluoromethylorithine to rat liver ornithine decarboxylase

TL;DR: The stoichiometric binding of [5-14C]-α-difluoromethylornithine provides a convenient method for quantitating ornithine decarboxylase protein and for determining the purity of preparations of the enzyme.
