Journal ArticleDOI
The roles of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in pregnancy, lactation and infancy: review of current knowledge and consensus recommendations.
Berthold Koletzko,Eric L. Lien,Carlo Agostoni,Hansjosef Böhles,Cristina Campoy,Irene Cetin,Tamás Decsi,Joachim W. Dudenhausen,Cristophe Dupont,Stewart Forsyth,Irene Hoesli,Wolfgang Holzgreve,Alexandre Lapillonne,G Putet,Niels Jørgen Secher,Michael E. Symonds,Hania Szajewska,Peter Willatts,Ricardo Uauy +18 more
TL;DR: Current knowledge on the role of the long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, DHA, docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid, in maternal and term infant nutrition as well as infant development is reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nitric oxide modulates expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in rat mesangial cells.
Wolfgang Eberhardt,Thomas Beeg,Karl-Friedrich Beck,Sebastian Walpen,Stefan Gauer,Hansjosef Böhles,Josef Pfeilschifter +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that NO modulates cytokine-mediated expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in rat MCs in culture and provides evidence that NO-mediated attenuation of M MP-9 gelatinolytic activity is primarily due to a reduced expression of mmp-9 mRNA, and not the result of direct inhibition of enzymatic activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial phosphate-carrier deficiency: a novel disorder of oxidative phosphorylation.
Johannes A Mayr,Olaf Merkel,Sepp D. Kohlwein,B Gebhardt,Hansjosef Böhles,Ulrike Fötschl,Johannes Koch,Michaela Jaksch,Hanns Lochmüller,Rita Horvath,Rita Horvath,Peter Freisinger,Wolfgang Sperl +12 more
TL;DR: Functional investigation of intact mitochondria showed a deficiency of ATP synthesis in muscle but not in fibroblasts, which correlated with the tissue-specific expression of exon 3A in muscle versus exon3B in fibromyalgia, the first report of patients with mitochondrial phosphate-carrier deficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Parenteral fat emulsions based on olive and soybean oils: a randomized clinical trial in preterm infants.
Yvonne Göbel,Berthold Koletzko,Hansjosef Böhles,Ilse Engelsberger,Dominique Forget,Alexia Le Brun,Jochen Peters,Andrea Zimmermann +7 more
TL;DR: The olive oil-based emulsion is a valuable alternative for parenteral feeding of preterm infants who are often exposed to oxidative stress, while their antioxidative defense is weak.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerebrovascular complications of L-asparaginase in the therapy of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
TL;DR: 5 children aged between 8 and 14 years with neurologic complications presenting with headache and seizures during the first three weeks of l-asparaginase treatment are reported, and one showed a peculiar encephalopathy with extended cortical and subcortical lesions suggesting a neurotoxic reaction.
