Conversion of Mechanical Force into TGF-β-Mediated Biochemical Signals
Toru Maeda,Tomoya Sakabe,Ataru Sunaga,Keiko Sakai,Alexander L. Rivera,Douglas R. Keene,Takako Sasaki,Edward Stavnezer,Joseph P. Iannotti,Ronen Schweitzer,Dusko Ilic,Harihara Baskaran,Takao Sakai,Takao Sakai +13 more
TL;DR: A critical role for mechanical force is demonstrated in adult tendon homeostasis and this mechanism could translate physical force into biochemical signals in a much broader variety of tissues or systems in the body.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effects of particle size, density and shape on margination of nanoparticles in microcirculation.
TL;DR: The design of nanoparticles strongly affects their margination, a key factor for their ultimate in vivo effectiveness, and the particle density showed an even more essential role, as it was observed that the lighter particles marginated significantly more.
Journal ArticleDOI
Imaging Metastasis Using an Integrin-Targeting Chain-Shaped Nanoparticle
Pubudu M. Peiris,Randall Toy,Elizabeth Doolittle,Jenna Pansky,Aaron Abramowski,Morgan Tam,Peter Vicente,Emily Tran,Elliott Hayden,Andrew Camann,Aaron T. Mayer,Bernadette O. Erokwu,Zachary Berman,David L. Wilson,Harihara Baskaran,Christopher A Flask,Ruth A. Keri,Efstathios Karathanasis +17 more
TL;DR: A chain-shaped nanoparticle for vascular targeting based on an α(v)β(3) integrin-targeted nanochain particle composed of four iron oxide nanospheres chemically linked in a linear assembly showed high specificity in a highly aggressive breast tumor model in mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-muscle myosin IIB is critical for nuclear translocation during 3D invasion
Dustin Thomas,Dustin Thomas,Aishwarya Yenepalli,Celine Denais,Andrew D. Rape,Jordan R. Beach,Yu-li Wang,William P. Schiemann,Harihara Baskaran,Jan Lammerding,Thomas T. Egelhoff,Thomas T. Egelhoff +11 more
TL;DR: Non-muscle myosin IIB plays a major role in applying force on the nucleus to facilitate nuclear translocation through tight spaces during 3D invasive migration, while non-muscles in the nucleus are critical for generating force during active protrusion.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Rapid Seeding Technique for the Assembly of Large Cell/Scaffold Composite Constructs
Luis A. Solchaga,Enrico Tognana,Kitsie Penick,Harihara Baskaran,Victor M. Goldberg,Arnold I. Caplan,Jean F. Welter +6 more
TL;DR: The results show that, under the conditions tested, hMSCs were quantitatively and homogeneously loaded into the scaffolds with 90+% retention rates after 24 h in perfusion culture with no negative effect on cell viability or chondrogenic potential.
