Journal ArticleDOI
LMNA, encoding lamin A/C, is mutated in partial lipodystrophy.
Sue Shackleton,David Lloyd,Stephen N.J. Jackson,R Evans,Martinus F. Niermeijer,Baldev M Singh,Hartmut H.-J. Schmidt,Georg Brabant,Sudesh Kumar,Paul N. Durrington,Simon G. Gregory,Stephen O'Rahilly,Richard C. Trembath +12 more
TL;DR: As LMNA is ubiquitously expressed, the finding of site-specific amino acid substitutions in PLD, EDMD–AD and CMD1A reveals distinct functional domains of the lamin A/C protein required for the maintenance and integrity of different cell types.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impaired glucose tolerance, beta cell function and lipid metabolism in HIV patients under treatment with protease inhibitors.
Georg M. N. Behrens,Andre Dejam,Hartmut H.-J. Schmidt,Hans-Joachim Balks,Georg Brabant,Thorsten Körner,Matthias Stoll,Reinhold E. Schmidt +7 more
TL;DR: Combination drug regimens including PI are accompanied by impaired glucose tolerance, hyperproinsulinaemia as an indicator for beta-cell dysfunction, and lipid abnormalities proved to be significant risk factors for coronary heart disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and efficacy of lamivudine in patients with severe acute or fulminant hepatitis B, a multicenter experience
H. L. Tillmann,Johannes Hadem,Ludger Leifeld,Kalliopi Zachou,Ali Canbay,Christoph Eisenbach,I. Graziadei,J. Encke,Hartmut H.-J. Schmidt,Wolfgang Vogel,Andrea Schneider,Ulrich Spengler,G. Gerken,George N. Dalekos,Heiner Wedemeyer,M. P. Manns +15 more
TL;DR: Lamivudine is safe in patients with severe acute or fulminant hepatitis B, leading to fast recovery with the potential to prevent liver failure and liver transplantation when administered early enough.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduction of Plasma 24S-Hydroxycholesterol (Cerebrosterol) Levels Using High-Dosage Simvastatin in Patients With Hypercholesterolemia: Evidence That Simvastatin Affects Cholesterol Metabolism in the Human Brain
S Locatelli,Dieter Lütjohann,Hartmut H.-J. Schmidt,Carsten Otto,Ulrike Beisiegel,Klaus von Bergmann +5 more
TL;DR: The greater reduction of plasma concentrations of 24S-hydroxycholesterol compared with cholesterol indicates that simvastatin in a dosage of 80 mg/d reduces cholesterol turnover in the brain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complement activation by recombinant adenoviruses
TL;DR: It is suggested that complement activation can be ignored in local low-dose applications of recombinant adenoviruses, but warrants attention after systemic application of large viral quantities, as well as in clinical protocols aiming at systemic virus application.
