Distinct BOLD variability changes in the default mode and salience networks in Alzheimer's disease spectrum and associations with cognitive decline
Liwen Zhang,Xi-Nian Zuo,Kwun Kei Ng,Joanna Su Xian Chong,Hee Youn Shim,Marcus Qin Wen Ong,Yng Miin Loke,Boon Linn Choo,Eddie Chong,Eddie Chong,Zi Xuen Wong,Zi Xuen Wong,Saima Hilal,Saima Hilal,Narayanaswamy Venketasubramanian,Boon Yeow Tan,Christopher Chen,Christopher Chen,Juan Helen Zhou,Juan Helen Zhou +19 more
TL;DR: Lower slow4 posterior-DMN variability correlated with poorer baseline cognition/smaller hippocampus and predicted faster cognitive decline in all patients using both GSR and ICA, suggesting that reciprocal DMN-SN variability balance in aMCI might represent an early signature in neurodegeneration and cognitive decline along the AD spectrum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerebrovascular disease influences functional and structural network connectivity in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease
Ashwati Vipin,Yng Miin Loke,Siwei Liu,Saima Hilal,Saima Hilal,Hee Youn Shim,Xin Xu,Xin Xu,Boon Yeow Tan,Narayanaswamy Venketasubramanian,Christopher Chen,Christopher Chen,Juan Zhou,Juan Zhou +13 more
TL;DR: Divergent DMN and ECN functional connectivity changes in CeVD and non-CeVD subjects are demonstrated through diverging and deleterious network-based degeneration underlying domain-specific cognitive impairment.
Journal ArticleDOI
White matter microstructural abnormalities and default network degeneration are associated with early memory deficit in Alzheimer’s disease continuum
Fang Ji,Ofer Pasternak,Kwun Kei Ng,Joanna Su Xian Chong,Siwei Liu,Liwen Zhang,Hee Youn Shim,Yng Miin Loke,Boon Yeow Tan,Narayanaswamy Venketasubramanian,Christopher Chen,Christopher Chen,Juan Helen Zhou,Juan Helen Zhou +13 more
TL;DR: This study provided evidence to support the hypothetical progression models underlying memory dysfunction in AD cascade and underscored the importance of FW increases and DMN degeneration in early stage of memory deficit.
Journal ArticleDOI
Amyloid burden accelerates white matter degradation in cognitively normal elderly individuals.
Ashwati Vipin,Kwun Kei Ng,Fang Ji,Hee Youn Shim,Joseph Lim,Ofer Pasternak,Juan Helen Zhou,Juan Helen Zhou +7 more
TL;DR: This is the first study to illustrate the influence of Aβ burden on early longitudinal (in addition to baseline) white matter changes in cognitively normal elderly individuals at‐risk of Alzheimer's disease, underscoring the importance of longitudinal studies in assessing microstructural alterations in individuals at risk of Alzheimer’s disease prior to symptoms onset.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms Linking White Matter Lesions, Tract Integrity, and Depression in Alzheimer Disease.
Chathuri Yatawara,Daryl Renick Lee,Kok Pin Ng,Russell J. Chander,Debby Ng,Fang Ji,Hee Youn Shim,Saima Hilal,Narayanaswamy Venketasubramanian,Christopher Chen,Juan Zhou,Nagaendran Kandiah +11 more
TL;DR: Reduced tract integrity in right hemispheric cortical-subcortical tracts and the genu of the corpus callosum was moderately associated with depressive symptoms in patients with mild AD, suggesting WML may drive the pathogenic link between reduced tract integrity and depressive symptoms.
