Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular Interactions between the Specialist Herbivore Manduca sexta (Lepidoptera, Sphingidae) and Its Natural Host Nicotiana attenuata. VII. Changes in the Plant's Proteome
Ashok P. Giri,Hendrik Wünsche,Sirsha Mitra,Jorge A. Zavala,Alexander Muck,Aleš Svatoš,Ian T. Baldwin +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the response of the plant's proteome to herbivore elicitation is complex, and integrated transcriptome-proteome-metabolome analysis is required to fully understand this ubiquitous ecological interaction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dimethyl Disulfide Produced by the Naturally Associated Bacterium Bacillus sp B55 Promotes Nicotiana attenuata Growth by Enhancing Sulfur Nutrition
Dorothea G. Meldau,Stefan Meldau,Long Hoa Hoang,Stefanie Underberg,Hendrik Wünsche,Ian T. Baldwin +5 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that DMDS by B55 production is a plant growth promotion mechanism that likely enhances the availability of reduced S, which is particularly beneficial for wild-type plants growing in S-deficient soils and for 35S-etr1 plants due to their impaired S uptake/assimilation/metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
High levels of jasmonic acid antagonize the biosynthesis of gibberellins and inhibit the growth of Nicotiana attenuata stems.
Maria Heinrich,Christian Hettenhausen,Theo Lange,Hendrik Wünsche,Jingjing Fang,Ian T. Baldwin,Jianqiang Wu +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that JA antagonizes GA biosynthesis by strongly inhibiting the transcript accumulation of GA20ox and possibly GA13ox, the key genes in GA production, demonstrating that high JA levels antagonizeGA biosynthesis in stems.
Journal ArticleDOI
S-Nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR) mediates the biosynthesis of jasmonic acid and ethylene induced by feeding of the insect herbivore Manduca sexta and is important for jasmonate-elicited responses in Nicotiana attenuata
TL;DR: The important role of GSNOR in plant resistance to herbivory and jasmonate signalling is highlighted and the potential involvement of NO in plant–herbivore interactions is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Narboh D, a Respiratory Burst Oxidase Homolog in Nicotiana attenuata, is Required for Late Defense Responses After Herbivore Attack
TL;DR: In this paper, Narboh D-silenced plants were more vulnerable to insect herbivores, especially the larvae of the generalist Spodoptera littoralis.
