Abstract: Effects of Ni dispersions on microstructure and mechanical properties have been studied for Y2O3-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP)/Ni nanocomposites with Ni dispersion up to 10 vol%. Composites were successfully fabricated by reducing and hot-pressing Y-TZP/NiO powder mixtures. Fracture strength was significantly improved from 1.5 GPa for monolithic Y-TZP to 1.9 GPa for nanocomposites with a small addition of Ni (1-2 vol%). Magnetic properties of Y-TZP/Ni nanocomposites were also investigated. Magnetization curves of Y-TZP/Ni nanocomposites showed typical hysteresis loops of soft magnetic materials, whereas coercivity was much larger than that of pure Ni metal. A new function arising from magnetomechanical effects of metallic Ni is also discussed for the present nanocomposites.

Abstract: We investigate the behavior of government deficits and fiscal reconstruction movement in Japan both theoretically and empirically. We first develop a dynamic framework of fiscal reconstruction process using the dynamic game theory among various interest groups. The distribution of a tax increase, that is, contribution of taxes to reducing public debt and raising privileges, depends on the political efficiency of lobbying activities. We also investigate empirically the relationship between the political inefficiency and the outcome of fiscal reconstruction process in the Japanese (national) general account.

Abstract: Because of the inherent small size of optical fiberscopes, they provide access and relative handling ease in given closed vessels, which are hardly equipped with extra windows for conventional flow visualization. The use of an optical fiberscope in conjunction with a conventional particle image velocimetry/particle tracking velocimetry (PIV/PTV) system without optimization can lead to degraded transmission of images. The present study proposes a processing technique to filter background noise contained within the coarse bundle image by subtracting the original image of the bundle as reference image. Additionally, efforts were made to increase the reliability of vector processing using particle streak images via judicious pulse interval and duration adjustments. As an applications test we measured classic jet flow using the developed system and using established conventional measurement techniques. Our tests confirmed that our fiberscope PTV system provides vector fields with sufficient accuracy.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the comfortableness by suppressing the shock in chip-in acceleration regardless of a knocking measure and to improve the deterioration of fuel consumption or traveling performance while suppressing the generation of muffled sound. SOLUTION: When the delay control of ignition timing of an engine 12 is performed by a knocking counter measure means 104 when an accelerator operation is performed from idling traveling in the engagement of a lock-up clutch 26, an annealing treatment is not properly performed by an annealing treatment means 106. Therefore, the lock-up clutch 26 is released to prevent the shock. When the engine speed is raised by the accelerator operation, in the engagement of the lock-up clutch 26, and gets in a muffle sound generating area, the lock-up clutch 26 is released, a continuously variable transmission 18 is changed in speed so that the turbine rotating speed gets out of the muffled sound generating area, and the lock-up clutch 26 is then re-engaged to extend the engagement area of the lock-up clutch 26. Abstract: An adamantyl naphthalene diimide derivative (AND) was synthesized as a highly selective double stranded DNA binding reagent The binding studies with sonicated calf thymus DNA revealed that AND can bind to double stranded DNA by the threading mode, where the two adamantyl moieties are located in the major and minor grooves of DNA duplex separately. In the presence of p-cydodextrin (P-CD), the complex of AND with DNA duplex was stabilized by capping of the adamantyl moieties of AND by P-CD. In other words, P-CD serves as a stabilizer for the complex of AND with DNA duplex to result in an enhanced selectivity of AND for double stranded DNA over single stranded DNA.
