Journal ArticleDOI

Evolution of the galaxy-dark matter connection and the assembly of galaxies in dark matter halos

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a new model to describe the galaxy-dark matter connection across cosmic time, which unlike the popular subhalo abundance matching technique is selfconsistent in that it takes account of the facts that subhalos are accreted at different times, and the properties of satellite galaxies may evolve after accretion.
Journal ArticleDOI

The alignment between the distribution of satellites and the orientation of their central galaxy

TL;DR: In this paper, the alignment between the orientation of the central galaxy (defined as the brightest group member) and the distribution of satellite galaxies was examined. But the alignment on scales smaller than the halo virial radius was not considered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ongoing assembly of massive galaxies by major merging in large groups and clusters from the SDSS

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the incidence of major mergers creating massive (Mstar > 10 11 M ) galaxies in present-day (z ≤ 0.12) groups and clusters using a volume-limited sample of 845 groups with dark matter halo masses above 2.5 × 10 13 M .
Journal ArticleDOI

Populating dark matter haloes with galaxies: comparing the 2dFGRS with mock galaxy redshift surveys

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the predicted two-dimensional correlation function xi(r(p), pi) to link the distribution of galaxies to that of dark matter haloes by considering halo occupation numbers as a function of galaxy luminosity and type.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the origin of cold dark matter halo density profiles

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the inner r -1 profile of CDM haloes is a natural result of hierarchical mass assembly with an initial phase of rapid accretion and the concentration of a halo is determined by the fraction of mass that is accreted during the fast-accretion phase.
