Staging of Bladder Cancer

TL;DR: Several critical changes and clarifications are made by the AJCC 8th edition relative to the 7th edition, and modifications are discussed, as well as points, which require further study and optimisation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Contemporary bladder cancer: Variant histology may be a significant driver of disease

TL;DR: MPV and PCV were independently associated with twice the risk of all-cause mortality compared with nonvariant, when adjusting for demographics, American Society of Anesthesiologists class, transurethral resection of bladder tumor stage, cystectomy stage, positive lymph nodes, and reception of chemotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Primary chemoablation of low-grade upper tract urothelial carcinoma using UGN-101, a mitomycin-containing reverse thermal gel (OLYMPUS): an open-label, single-arm, phase 3 trial

TL;DR: Primary chemoablation of low-grade upper tract urothelial cancer with intracavitary UGN-101 results in clinically significant disease eradication and might offer a kidney-sparing treatment alternative for these patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasmacytoid bladder cancer: variant histology with aggressive behavior and a new mode of invasion along fascial planes.

TL;DR: PCV exhibits a unique pattern of spread along the ureter that proposes a new mode of invasion along the fascial sheath, and in conjunction with the increased incidence of +UM, may lead to a paradigm shift, with surgeons and pathologists being more vigilant with surgical margins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasmacytoid variant urothelial bladder cancer: Is it time to update the treatment paradigm?

TL;DR: In this paper, a retrospective analysis of the Indiana University Bladder Cancer Database between January 2008 and June 2013 was performed comparing 30 patients with PCV UC at cystectomy to 278 patients with nonvariant (NV) urothelial cancer (UC) who underwent surgery for muscle-invasive disease.
