Forest structure and carbon dynamics in Amazonian tropical rain forests.

TL;DR: Based on size distribution and growth rate differences in the three sites, it is predicted that trees in the Manaus forest have greater mean age than those of the other two forests (~140 years), and initial estimates of the C balance suggests that live wood biomass is at near steady-state in Manaus, but accumulating at about 1.5 Mg C ha−1 at the other three sites.

Monitoring fires in southwestern Amazonia Rain Forests

TL;DR: In the state of Acre, Brazil, hot spot counts from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA)-12 sensor had exceeded the number for all of 2004, and anecdotal reports of fires escaping control and invading forests became frequent as mentioned in this paper.
