Materials Processing by Gas Cluster Ion Beams

TL;DR: In this paper, the principles and experimental status of gas cluster ion beam (GCIB) processing as a promising surface modification technique for practical industrial applications are discussed from the moment of neutral cluster formation, through ionization, acceleration and impact upon a surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Incident angle dependence of the sputtering effect of Ar-cluster-ion bombardment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have irradiated Cu and Ag thin films with a 20 keV Ar cluster ion beam (mean cluster size is 3000) at several different incident angles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular dynamics simulation of damage formation by cluster ion impact

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors simulated an Ar cluster, with size from 13 to 3000 atoms, impacting on a Si(100) substrate, with acceleration energies from 0.5 keV to 55 keV.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface processing by gas cluster ion beams at the atomic (molecular) level

TL;DR: Gas cluster ion beam techniques have been developed for atomic and molecular level surface modification processing as discussed by the authors, and they have been used for surface treatments that are distinctly different from those produced by conventional monomer ion irradiation.
Journal ArticleDOI

STM observation of HOPG surfaces irradiated with Ar cluster ions

TL;DR: In this paper, a single trace formed by a cluster ion impact on a solid surface has been investigated using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) images of Highly Oriented Pyrolitic Graphite (HOPG) surfaces, were obtained after irradiation with 150 keV Ar cluster or 1.5 keV monomer ions.
