Factors influencing the occurrence of airway hyperreactivity in the general population: the importance of atopy and airway calibre.

TL;DR: The independent effects of age, atopy, smoking and airway calibre, as well as reactivity to methacholine as the dose provoking a 20% fall in one-second forced expiratory volume, were assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cysteinyl leukotriene E4 activates human group 2 innate lymphoid cells and enhances the effect of prostaglandin D2 and epithelial cytokines.

TL;DR: CysLTs, particularly LTE4, are important contributors to the triggering of human ILC2s in inflammatory responses, particularly when combined with other I LC2 activators.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aspergillus fumigatus during stable state and exacerbations of COPD

TL;DR: Assessments of lung function, allergen testing and sputum analysis for inflammation, bacteria and fungus were undertaken in COPD subjects and healthy smoking and nonsmoking controls and sensitisation to Aspergillus fumigatus was found to be related to poor lung function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Induced sputum and other outcome measures in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: safety and repeatability.

TL;DR: In conclusion, sputum induction is safe and the cell and fluid phase mediators repeatable in the investigation of airway inflammation in patients with COPD and VAS symptom scores and the CRQ are reproducible outcome measures in COPD.
