Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative phylogenetic study of Stichotrichia (Alveolata: Ciliophora: Spirotrichea) based on 18S-rDNA sequences.
Thiago da Silva Paiva,Bárbara do Nascimento Borges,Maria Lúcia Harada,Inácio Domingos da Silva-Neto +3 more
TL;DR: The results suggest the reconsideration of both CEUU and the position of Halteria among flexible-body oxytrichids and the monophyly of Stichotrichia if Pseudoamphisiella is considered an external (discocephalid related) taxon.
Journal ArticleDOI
"Candidatus Fokinia solitaria", a Novel "Stand-Alone" Symbiotic Lineage of Midichloriaceae (Rickettsiales).
Franziska Szokoli,Franziska Szokoli,Elena Sabaneyeva,Michele Castelli,Sascha Krenek,Martina Schrallhammer,Carlos A. G. Soares,Inácio Domingos da Silva-Neto,Thomas U. Berendonk,Giulio Petroni +9 more
TL;DR: The present work describes a new bacterial endosymbiont, “Candidatus Fokinia solitaria”, retrieved from three different strains of a novel Paramecium species isolated from a wastewater treatment plant in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
Journal ArticleDOI
A House for Two—Double Bacterial Infection in Euplotes woodruffi Sq1 (Ciliophora, Euplotia) Sampled in Southeastern Brazil
Marcus Vinicius Xavier Senra,Marcus Vinicius Xavier Senra,Roberto Júnio Pedroso Dias,Roberto Júnio Pedroso Dias,Michele Castelli,Inácio Domingos da Silva-Neto,Franco Verni,Carlos A. G. Soares,Giulio Petroni +8 more
TL;DR: The need for more detailed investigations is suggested to evaluate the host range for “Ca. B. woodruffii” and any possible pathogenic effect of this bacterium on other organisms including humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expanded phylogenetic analyses of the class Heterotrichea (Ciliophora, Postciliodesmatophora) using five molecular markers and morphological data.
Noemi M. Fernandes,Thiago da Silva Paiva,Inácio Domingos da Silva-Neto,Martin Schlegel,Carlos G. Schrago +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present hypotheses of the evolution of internal groups of the class Heterotrichea based on multi-loci analyses (18S-RDNA, 28S-rDNA, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region, COI and alpha-tubulin) and morphological data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogenetic study of Class Armophorea (Alveolata, Ciliophora) based on 18S-rDNA data
Thiago da Silva Paiva,Thiago da Silva Paiva,Bárbara do Nascimento Borges,Inácio Domingos da Silva-Neto +3 more
TL;DR: The 18S rDNA phylogeny of Class Armophorea, a group of anaerobic ciliates, is proposed based on an analysis of 44 sequences retrieved from the NCBI/GenBank database and revealed that the relationships among higher taxa of the Intramacronucleata were dependent upon how indels were determined during multiple-alignment of nucleotides.
