Laundry wastewater treatment using coagulation and membrane filtration
TL;DR: In this paper, the results obtained from laundry wastewater treatment using conventional methods namely precipitation/coagulation and the flocculation process with adsorption on granular-activated carbon (GAC) and an alternative method, membrane filtrations, namely ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO).
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of membrane fouling by (pretreated) surface water on rejection of pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) by nanofiltration membranes
Arne Verliefde,Emile Cornelissen,Sgj Heijman,Irena Petrinić,Thomas Luxbacher,Gary L. Amy,B. Van der Bruggen,J.C. van Dijk +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of surface water pretreatment on membrane fouling and the influence of these different fouling types on the rejection of 21 neutral, positively and negatively charged pharmaceuticals were investigated for two nanofiltration membranes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomimetic aquaporin membranes coming of age
Chuyang Y. Tang,Zhining Wang,Irena Petrinić,Anthony G. Fane,Claus Hélix-Nielsen,Claus Hélix-Nielsen +5 more
TL;DR: The essentials of aquaporin protein function are summarized, the latest progress in this fascinating area of membrane research and development is reviewed and two main approaches have been suggested based on planar membranes and vesicles respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
The removal of reactive dye printing compounds using nanofiltration
TL;DR: In this paper, a synthetically prepared reactive dye print wastewater, mimicking real wastewater obtained from a local textile mill, was treated by nanofiltration using an NFT-50 membrane in a plate and frame module configuration at different cross-flow velocities (0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 m/s) and pressures (2-15 bar).
Journal ArticleDOI
A feasibility study of ultrafiltration/reverse osmosis (UF/RO)-based wastewater treatment and reuse in the metal finishing industry
TL;DR: In this article, the technical and economic feasibility of adding an ultra-filtration process as a pre-treatment for removing dissolved and colloidal contaminants > 0.4μm, and to eliminate membrane fouling before a final reverse osmosis process resulting in permeate that would meet reuse criteria.
