Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of various electrophoretic characteristics of LDL particles and their relationship to the risk of ischemic heart disease.
Annie C. St-Pierre,Isabelle Ruel,Bernard Cantin,Gilles R. Dagenais,Paul-Marie Bernard,Jean-Pierre Després,Benoît Lamarche +6 more
TL;DR: Results from this large, population-based, prospective study suggest that further characterization of LDL particles by PAGGE, in addition to the traditional lipid profile, may improve the ability to predict IHD events in men.
Journal ArticleDOI
The HDL proteome in acute coronary syndromes shifts to an inflammatory profile.
Khalid Al-Waili,Dana Bailey,Zuhier Awan,Swneke D. Bailey,Isabelle Ruel,Anouar Hafiane,Larbi Krimbou,Sylvie Laboissiere,Jacques Genest +8 more
TL;DR: Increased abundance of SAA, C3, and other inflammatory proteins in HDL from ACS patients suggests that HDL reflects a shift to an inflammatory profile which, in turn, might alter the protective effects of HDL on the atherosclerotic plaque.
Journal Article
A prospective, population-based study of low density lipoprotein particle size as a risk factor for ischemic heart disease in men.
Benoît Lamarche,Annie C. St-Pierre,Isabelle Ruel,Bernard Cantin,Gilles R. Dagenais,Jean-Pierre Després +5 more
TL;DR: The present study provides the first large scale, population-based, prospective evidence supporting the hypothesis that small, dense LDL particles may be associated with an increased risk of IHD and suggests that information on LDL diameter may improve the ability to predict IHD risk accurately over traditional lipid variables.
Journal ArticleDOI
Canadian Cardiovascular Society Position Statement on Familial Hypercholesterolemia: Update 2018.
Liam R. Brunham,Isabelle Ruel,Sumayah Aljenedil,Jean-Baptiste Rivière,Alexis Baass,Alexis Baass,Jack V. Tu,G.B. John Mancini,Paolo Raggi,Milan Gupta,Patrick Couture,Glen J. Pearson,Jean Bergeron,Gordon A. Francis,Brian W. McCrindle,Katherine M. Morrison,Julie St-Pierre,Mélanie Henderson,Robert A. Hegele,Jacques Genest,Jacques Genest,Jeannette Goguen,Daniel Gaudet,Guillaume Paré,Jacques Romney,Thomas Ransom,Sophie Bernard,Pamela M. Katz,Tisha R. Joy,David Bewick,James M. Brophy,James M. Brophy +31 more
TL;DR: An update of the 2014 Canadian Cardiovascular Society position statement on FH addressing the need for case identification, prompt recognition, and treatment with statins and ezetimibe, and cascade family screening and a new Canadian definition for FH and tools for clinicians to make a diagnosis are provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of an ABCA1-dependent phospholipid-rich plasma membrane apolipoprotein A-I binding site for nascent HDL formation: implications for current models of HDL biogenesis.
Houssein Hajj Hassan,Maxime Denis,Dong-Young Donna Lee,Iulia Iatan,Dana Nyholt,Isabelle Ruel,Larbi Krimbou,Jacques Genest +7 more
TL;DR: Treatment of cells with phosphatidylcholine-specific phospholipase C, but not sphingomyelinase, concomitantly reduced the binding of 125I-apoA-I to the HCBS, apoA- I-mediated cholesterol efflux, and the formation of nascent apo-I-containing particles, suggesting a two binding site model for ABCA1-mediated nascent HDL genesis.
