Journal ArticleDOI
Social isolation-induced changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in the rat.
TL;DR: The results suggest that social isolation increased sensitivity of the pituitary to CRF and impaired negative feedback regulation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure-activity relationships and effects on neuroactive steroid synthesis in a series of 2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridineacetamide peripheral benzodiazepine receptors ligands.
Giuseppe Trapani,Valentino Laquintana,Nunzio Denora,Adriana Trapani,Angela Lopedota,Andrea Latrofa,Massimo Franco,Mariangela Serra,Maria Giuseppina Pisu,Ivan Floris,Enrico Sanna,Giovanni Biggio,Gaetano Liso +12 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that bulkiness of the substituents, their branching, and length beyond an optimal value may cause hindrance to the ligand in its interaction with the receptor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Social isolation-induced increase in α4 and δ subunit gene expression is associated with a greater efficacy of ethanol on steroidogenesis and GABAA receptor function
Mariangela Serra,Maria Cristina Mostallino,Giuseppe Talani,Maria Giuseppina Pisu,Mario Carta,Maria Luisa Mura,Ivan Floris,Elisabetta Maciocco,Enrico Sanna,Giovanni Biggio,Giovanni Biggio +10 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the ethanol‐induced increase in 3α,5α‐TH PROG is more pronounced in the brain than in the plasma of isolated rats, and in an enhancement of the stimulatory effect of ethanol on brain steroidogenesis, GABAA receptor function and associated behaviour.
Journal ArticleDOI
Social isolation-induced increase in the sensitivity of rats to the steroidogenic effect of ethanol.
TL;DR: The results suggest that mild chronic stress, such as that induced by social isolation, enhances the steroidogenic effect of ethanol, a drug abused by humans under stress or affected by neuropsychiatric disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of drug abuse among workers: Strengths and pitfalls of the recent Italian Workplace Drug Testing (WDT) legislation
Isabel Kazanga,Silvia Tameni,Alberto Piccinotti,Ivan Floris,Gabriele Zanchetti,Aldo Polettini +5 more
TL;DR: This survey enabled to evidence relevant pitfalls of the law and define strategies to improve the outcomes of WDT policies to highlight pros and cons and draw suggestions for policies in the field.
