Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of carvedilol and metoprolol on clinical outcomes in patients with chronic heart failure in the Carvedilol Or Metoprolol European Trial (COMET): randomised controlled trial
Philip A. Poole-Wilson,Karl Swedberg,John G.F. Cleland,Andrea Di Lenarda,Peter Hanrath,Michel Komajda,Jacobus Lubsen,Beatrix Lutiger,Marco Metra,Willem J. Remme,Christian Torp-Pedersen,Armin Scherhag,Allan M. Skene +12 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that carvedilol extends survival compared with metoprolol.
Journal ArticleDOI
RANDOMISED TRIAL OF INTRAVENOUS RECOMBINANT TISSUE-TYPE PLASMINOGEN ACTIVATOR VERSUS INTRAVENOUS STREPTOKINASE IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION: Report from the European Cooperative Study Group for Recombinant Tissue-type Plasminogen Activator
M. Verstraete,M Bory,Desire Collen,Raimund Erbel,R.J. Lennane,Detlef G. Mathey,H.-R. Michels,M. Schartl,Rainer Uebis,R Bernard,Ronald W. Brower,D.P. de Bono,W. Huhmann,Jacobus Lubsen,J. Meyer,Wolfgang Rutsch,W. Schmidt,R. Von Essen +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the frequency of coronary patency was found to be higher after intravenous administration of recombinant human tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA) than after IV intravenous streptokinase.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thrombolysis with tissue plasminogen activator in acute myocardial infarction: no additional benefit from immediate percutaneous coronary angioplasty
M. L. Simoons,Amadeo Betriu,J Col,R. Von Essen,Jacobus Lubsen,P.L. Michel,Wolfgang Rutsch,W. Schmidt,C. Thery,A Vahanian,George M. Willems,A. E. R. Arnold,D.P. de Bono,F.C. Dougherty,Heinz Lambertz,B. Meier,Ph. Raynaud,G.A. Sanz,P. W. Serruys,Rainer Uebis,F. Van de Werf,David A. Wood,M. Verstraete +22 more
TL;DR: There seems to be no need for immediate angiography and PTCA in patients with acute myocardial infarction treated with rTPA, with a lower incidence of recurrent ischaemia, bleeding complications, hypotension, and ventricular fibrillation after non-invasive therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
QTc prolongation measured by standard 12-lead electrocardiography is an independent risk factor for sudden death due to cardiac arrest.
TL;DR: Data indicate that in patients without intraventricular conduction defects and cardiac dysfunction, QTc prolongation measured from the standard electrocardiogram is a risk factor for sudden death independent of age, history of myocardial infarction, heart rate, and drug use.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of long-acting nifedipine on mortality and cardiovascular morbidity in patients with stable angina requiring treatment (ACTION trial): Randomised controlled trial
Philip A. Poole-Wilson,Jacobus Lubsen,Bridget-Anne Kirwan,Fred J van Dalen,Gilbert Wagener,Nicolas Danchin,Hanjörg Just,Keith A.A. Fox,Stuart J. Pocock,Tim Clayton,Michael Motro,John D. Parker,Martial G. Bourassa,Anthony M. Dart,Per Hildebrandt,Åke Hjalmarson,Johannes A. Kragten,G Peter Molhoek,J.E. Otterstad,Ricardo Seabra-Gomes,Jordi Soler-Soler,Simon Weber +21 more
TL;DR: Addition of nifedipine GITS to conventional treatment of angina pectoris has no effect on major cardiovascular event-free survival and is safe and reduces the need for coronary angiography and interventions.
