Distribution based data filtering for financial time series forecasting

TL;DR: This work examines the use of an alternative data pre-processing approach, whereby knowledge of distribution changes is used to pre-filter the training dataset, and indicates that this simple and efficient technique can produce effective results and obtain improvements in prediction accuracy when used in conjunction with a range of forecasting techniques.

Moments of Confusion in Simulation-Based Learning Environments

TL;DR: In this article, the possible moments of confusion in a simulation-based predict-observe-explain (POE) environment were investigated and it was found that POE environments can offer a level of difficulty that potentially triggers some confusion, and a likely moment of students' confusion was the observe task.

A Framework to Adjust Dependency Measure Estimates for Chance

TL;DR: This paper proposes a framework to adjust dependency measure estimates on finite samples and demonstrates that this approach enhances the interpretability of MIC when used as a proxy for the amount of noise between variables, and to gain accuracy when ranking variables during the splitting procedure in random forests.

What Do Deep Nets Learn? Class-wise Patterns Revealed in the Input Space

TL;DR: In this article, a method was proposed to visualize and understand the class-wise patterns learned by DNNs trained under three different settings including natural, backdoored and adversarial.
